Electrical Gremlins

I had an issue a couple weeks ago where my headlamps stopped working. I still had running lamps and taillights, but the dash lights would turn off when headlights turned on. I used some wire and bypassed the switch so I could get home figuring the switch went bad. I recently installed new omix light and dimmer switches, matching the wires exactly as removed. However, the same issue remains and now my ignition switch does not kill the motor. The wiring is original, but upgraded to 12v and I'm starting to think maybe the insulation somewhere has worn between two wires. Has anyone experienced something like this before or any suggestions before I start checking everything with the ohmmeter? Thanks in advance.

Is the wiring harness original or has it been re-wired? I would sure look at the ignition switch as that is the common point to your issues.....shorting against the case maybe.

Also check the ammeter as the hot wire goes there first...they have been known to short against the mounting bracket and cause trouble

Be careful to un-hook the battery when trouble shooting as 6v with high amps can melt wires really fast....

It appears to be the original cloth wrapped wire, but converted to 12v. I'll investigate the switch and ammeter like you suggest. Thanks!
