Front bumper - go with gussets?

Rocking my brains for the best solution here. As the front part of the frame on my 50 3A is pretty weak I was thinking about perhaps reinforcing it with a plate welded between frame top and bottom portions and install gussets and MB style front bumper? I'm going for the MB look anyway... did anyone try this? gonna have to fabricate something anyway.
Look at photos of the frame on my 3A and the photo I stole from the net of the look I'm going for.

I believe that the original frame had a vertical tab that was riveted to the bumper and provided  vertical strength.

Thanks, I did all the research I could on front frame rails and bumpers. Too bad new frame rails are not available - seems that I just have to buy a new bumper and form front portion of the frame to make it work and make sure it is sturdy enough to support the weight of the vehicle especially where springs are mounted up front.

Dre, Check out Walck's they have frame rails 18 inch and 48 inch.

I know... for 2A and I'm dealing with a 3A here. It's ok. I was just wondering if anyone tried to install front bumper using the gussets just like MB - especially the ones that converted their 3A's to MB.

This is what I did:

Just cut 45 degree angles in the frame horns. You can buy 12 gauge gussets like an MB has.  I made mine from 11 gauge for strength. You will also have to make the "C" shaped boxing plates unless you are going for the gpw look then you can just leave the frame open.

purfect! that's what I was thinking about. Thanks! I was browsing your posts over on the CJ-2A page forum to no avail - this is most likely the way I will go instead of rebuilding the front parts of the frame - I'm going for the MB look anyways...

thanks again... ordering gussets and an MB style front bumper.
