Steering Box Issue

I am rebuilding the steering and I think that I need to do a little more work.  It appears that the bottom bearing race should come out of the case.  It looks like there is a snap ring below the race that should have been on the worm shaft.

Any ideas on removing it?

Does the tube come out of the housing?  How?

The snap ring was designed to hold the lower race in place during assembly.  It's not necessarily needed because you can install the worm shaft with the race already in the box.  I've had a couple boxes apart.  Neither of them had the snap ring.

The tube can be removed.  It is brazed to the disc on the bottom side.  This disc is essentially pressed in to the bottom of box.  If you remove it, you will need to tap it back in.  Clean it first...and use some sealant.

After trying all of my pullers and threaded rod, I found that the hook on my small slide hammer would get behind the race.  A few light taps and it was out.
