Hood Spacer for Windshield

My hood has one hole and a dimple for a second.  Assume somebody filled hole 2 at some point.  Tire chunks have been acting as the rest for last 30 years.  I found wood blocks at Kaiser, but curious if that is the way to go?  I know that's original but wondering if anybody has other ideas.  Thanks.

I made my own by cutting two pieces of redwood 2by2.  About 4 inches long, countersunk the two bolt holes and then I glued some anti-squeak material on the tops of them so as to not chip my windshield frame.  They look good. 

I should ad...for some reason I have to add 4 inch high foam blocks over them when I lay the windshield down.  If I lay it all the way down on the blocks without the foam, the vent will rest on the hood and rub all the paint away.  I suspect it has something to do with either my frame arms being bent (I doubt it), or maybe the frame pivot points were mounted too low on the tub (more likely).  Either way, the standard blocks are not tall enough and I have to use the foam.  If you need me to, I can get some photos posted tomorrow.

I used the blocks the vendors sell. I don't remember exactly who i got them from.

I stained them and added some left over grill welting to the blocks.

My windshield rides really close to the hood but as long as the vent stays closed it clears....the windshield wiper also comes pretty close....

Thanks for the info.  Appreciate your photos and experience.  My windshield  currently does not possess a wiper.  Not sure I'm going to remedy that.  The vent is seized.  I'm going to have to cut it and work it out.  I have a new vent and seal on standby.  I have not had my windshield attached yet.  I need to perform some corrosion control first.  Then, based on your input, I'll see what kind of distance I need to cover in order for the windshield to rest properly.

Its pretty easy to check your windshield for the proper angle, My vent rode on the hood at one point as well, I found that the arms were slightly bent, it doesn't take much of an angle change to make a big difference.  To check it, put your windshield up into place and lock it in, measure from the front of the windshield to the very rear of the tub at the driver and passenger side, that distance should be the same on both sides and if I remember it should be about 63.5 inches.  I think the actual dimensions are in Bob W.s book.  If someone has that number on the top of their head please yell out.  If the dimension is less than the prescribed, your vent will ride on the hood.
