No snow in our yard so I thought I'd be safe going to retrieve that 3A. No good. It's still stuck firmly in a glacier. Oscar did help me "field strip" some of the low hanging fruit so it was a somewhat productive trip. We'll return for the carcass in the spring.

And like a moth to a porch light I got sucked back in to Harbor Freight yesterday for a few upgrades for The Hauler. New storage box and winch. If this actually works it'll beat the heck out of the come-a-long it's replacing...

Next time at HF grab a snatch block to keep in your new storage box. With that and the 5000# winch you'll be able to drag up anything your trailer can hold.

Destroyed. I figured my welds or the cable would fail before the entire thing blew in half. Good thing there was still 89 days and 1 hour left on my 90 Day Warranty.

Well...there you have it.  I've always wondered if the HF winches would hold up.  :-?

What were you pulling?

And what will you replace it with?  Another HF....?

Maybe one that is about three times the capacity that you will ever need....?

In defense of the winch, I was trying to pull the second story off a large shed (this is a whole other saga...) and it absolutely exceed the intended capability of this piece of equipment. I returned the pile of twisted metal and came home with a 9,000lb winch instead. I have yet to even take it out of the box but it looks 5x more rugged than the 5,000lb winch. I'm sure if it has a limit, I will find it though. ;D

All in good time. It is actually somewhat Jeep related so the chronicles will likely appear here once it's all said and done.
