Get a rating at a school that rents and you are good to go......you are in floatplane country!

I'm sure there are places on the west coast and certainly in Alaska that do that, but my understanding is that Twitchell's is the only one on the east coast.

After I received my private license, I started to get interensted in getting my floatplane rating.  One of the older flight instructers at college just smiled and said,"Just remember, your brakes don't work as well on water so be careful where you land.."

Great photos!

Boy it seems like it's been ages since I dragged anything home. I've been on a downsizing frenzy just trying to clear the house and yard of all the "'tweener" Jeep parts and misc junk that seems to have piled up higher than I ever could have imagined.

"'Tweener" stuff is everything left after you sell of all the "good" treasures from a haul.

You are left with junk that is too good to scrap but not really good enough to sell. It falls somewhere between trash and treasure - "'Tweener". I painstakingly found places to unload all of it so I'm as ready for winter as I'm going to be.

Part of my downsizing frenzy included selling my M38 ....boohoo.....it's going to a very good home and the buyer has not yet taken delivery of it so I still have a little quality time left to say "goodbye".

I had no plans to replace it but less than 24 hours after the terms of the sale were finalized this popped up on CL, and well, you know the rest. A deal was struck and home it came. Not sure what my plans are but I'll at least start a separate thread here for it.

It look nice.

However i did notice the bench in front of it, which type (front, rear, side) and on which jeep model it belong to?

I might be interested by it if you want to sell it.

It's way newer and I don't even think it's an actual Jeep seat. I very much doubt it's anything you would be interested in.

After an extended hiatus the Willys Hotline is back up and running. Today's lead had me chasing a vague description of "an old jeep". Turns out it's a  '54 M38A1 with a V-6 - is that a Dauntless?

Supposedly "Ran when it drove to that spot 5 years ago...".

The price is "right" but I'm not certain I even want to deal with it so at this point I do not own it. Any input from the peanut gallery here?

The intriguing thing about this particular Jeep is that it's in a spot I have driven past 100's of times and never knew it was there as you can't see it from the road. Just makes you wonder - What else is out there...right under my nose...waiting to be found?????

That looks like a 60 degree V6 - not a Dauntless.

Looks like it still has the serial number plate so I'd say there is value as an M-38A1, without that engine.

Does it have a 4-speed behind the V6?
If so, grab it.

A trip to the Maine coast is almost always worthwhile. A trip to the Maine coast in December when the temps are unseasonably warm and you're running down a lead on decrepit Jeep parts is even better.

I took the following pics outside, exposed to the elements, and I didn't freeze to death. Unheard of this time of year.

Ok, enough lollygagging. There's rusty gold around here somewhere. Let's find it.

Look at this ancient artifact - SN 13330! When you find a VEC carcass laying in the woods, no matter how rough, you don't leave it there. I took this one home with me.

Oscar performing his usual security check before I am allowed to proceed any further

There's never enough room on the trailer, is there? The PE-95 generator is powered by an MB motor. It's the first one I've ever seen in the flesh, let alone foolish enough to drag home. I'll post more on it later.

A quick pit stop at HF for one of these. Figured it might come in handy now and again....

Well the wife was able to park in the garage for a couple nights this week at least. Might be awhile before that happens again.

In the next episode of "How to do Everything Wrong" I unload a 1000lb paperweight by tethering it to a parked 3A and driving away.
