It looks like all the glass is there....

I can't imagine what might be hibernating in the upholstery...

More pictures when you get it home!!

Edit: Is that some sort of commemorative plaque on the dash next to the speedometer?

Good eyes. I never noticed that. Upon closer examination of a zoomed in picture it reads:

         ** WARNING**
IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE AS MUCH AS I VALUE THIS CAR
        "DON'T ____ WITH IT"

Classy.

Perhaps the value of the car has diminished since that plaque was installed.....you can only hope!

Aaahhhhhh, the original SUV.  First vehicle I've seen where the entertainment system (the most important system in any car iMHO) is located immediately within reach.  It's interesting to me that it has an OHV motor (early Hurricane?) if it's a '51.  I guess those must have made it into the trucks before the CJ's--probably because they wouldn't fit into the CJ without the redesign.  Just a guess.

I ventured out to the boondocks again today hot on the trail of what I was told was a decrepit "2A".

It's full-on mud season here in Maine which means anything that can be soggy is indeed soggy.

I found the seller's property and he pointed out across a mud bog and into the woods indicating the location of said "2A".

"How do I get up there?" I asked.

Looking at my 3A, he said "you afraid to get this thing dirty?"

"Nope".....4LO and off we go.

The 2A turned out to be more of a weird M38-ish salad. Motor was gone and the thing was pretty much a lost cause.

Oooh! But wait....is that 4 shift levers I see??

Indeed!!

Instead of figuring out how to drag the whole vehicle home I quickly bargained a deal to pick a few parts. Space was limited in the 3A so I made off with the rear seat and a Warn 29 tooth OD. Wooo hooo!!

Good stuff!

How on earth did you get that OD off out there in the woods?

Those "special nuts" are supposed to be pretty tight!

Indeed they are. Trust me, I breathed a sigh of relief when it let loose with considerably less than the 100+ ft/lbs of torque it should have taken. Even better, the floor was all but rotten away so I was able to the complete the entire task looking from the top down. I never once had to slither under the vehicle. I still manged to ruin a nice pair of pants though....

How do you come up with all of these gems?!  I check craigslist in my area every day and hardly ever find any deals.

You gotta dig deeper than CL. Get out there and start banging on doors! Post signs at car shows, put wanted ads in your local paper, tell anyone you talk to about Jeeps that you are looking for parts and you'd be amazed at what turns up.

Nope. I didn't have any more room on board. I think I will be making a return trip.

Just bid on this neat old 24" porcelain sign and was blown out of the water by someone with much deeper pockets. Great sign though.

Hmmmm, even you might be challenged getting that one ready for Owl's Head in July.  :-)
