I was on my way to the supermarket today when I received a call on the Willys Parts Hotline. I immediately changed course and headed to the scene. Less than an hour later I was lowering this stuff out of the rafters of a garage in a milk crate tied to a rope.

As of this morning I am the proud owner of this fine piece of equipment. It is pretty much total garbage EXCEPT for the PTO driven Ramsey winch that powers the rear mounted log crane. Unfortunately, I need to take the whole vehicle in order to scavenge the winch. I'm now working up a plan to haul it home.

Not to worry. I've been selling off greasy parts on eBay like there's no tomorrow. Nothing turns the tide on spousal Willys approval like actually making a couple bucks as opposed to bleeding money profusely. So long as she sees a steady flow of inventory I'm good. It's the stuff I tend to hang on to that gets me in trouble....and I tend to hang onto a lot of stuff.

I don't know a lot about Pickups but i don't think the 6-226 showed up until the early or mid '50's. And yes, the winch/pulley system is pretty slick. I'll be able to get more pics (and possibly get it running ??) once I get it home.

Here's a few more spy photos. That rear lift apparatus is craftily fabricated from sections of another frame. Wicked decent!

That would be a mid 50's or later truck.  The early trucks had a flat grill instead of the v-nose and all the early trucks had L-134 engines.

Ryan, you may think its junk, but just from your photo I can spot several parts the truck guys will love.  Post it over at the Old Willys Forum and they can guide you..

I'm beginning to suspect foul play with all of these OEM finds in the Northeast..... :-?

I parted out that '57 Pickup last year and did very well with it. This one doesn't have as many gems still left on it but certainly enough to justify dragging it home.

The best information I have found to all the different changes in the wagons and trucks is "Parts Catalog, Restoration/Repower Guide" from Willys America. I've had this for quite some time but don't see it listed on their website.

I traveled deep into the hinterlands today to seek out this diamond in the rough. It's a '51 Wagon that's been in the owner's family since '68. From what I could tell through the glacier's grip it is in unusually solid shape for a Maine Jeep. It has the typical rot around the bottom edges but not nearly as bad as previous ones I have looked at. According to the owner he "rebuilt the transmission in '78 or '79 so that stuff's all new....".

The best part is he showed me all the original paperwork that came with it. All the Willys dealer/service cards, hub manual, owner's manual, etc. Very cool. We did not strike a deal that allowed me to drag it home just yet but we're on each other's radar now. You may not be seeing the last of this one.





Supposedly the original tailgate is "in the shed somewhere"
