An older neighbor down the lake drop's by most Saturdays to check progress on my 3A. Said many times he had a timing light and dwell meter but could not find it.
This was on my work bench Saturday morning..
Ryan I will need lessons on your next road trip south..

Wow, a nice modern timing light. It has a snapon inductive pickup instead of having to connect inline with a plug wire like my old one.

And the Dwell-Tach has a current shunt too so you can do load measurements.

Nice score! No need to wait for me to show you - they're both super simple. Post here when you're ready to try them out and we'll coach you through it. I'm sure there's a plethora of previous threads out there with pretty good instruction too.

You'll need some white or yellow chalk to highlight the timing mark on the pulley.

Score!  I love free tools!  My dwell meter came to me from an uncle for free.  I was asking my dad for a dwell meter and he couldn't find his (turns out he threw it away years ago).  He mentioned my need to my uncle (his older brother) and my uncle replied "He can have mine because I'm never going to fool with setting the dwell on something again!  There is a reason everything is electronic ignition now.."

By the way, make sure you take your time when you are using your timing light and keep track of where your wires are at all times.  A fan blade can chew through those things in a hurry if you're not careful.... ::) :-X

Even quicker than a hot exhaust manifold can melt one....  :(

My engine has been running so smoothly this summer I have decided to wait until fall to screw it up with the timing light and dwell meter.
