Trail to Hotel Rock

[size=12]You saw this tree in my earlier post, but passing it again I wanted another photo.� Here you can see the whole tree.� The trunk is larger than a Jeep.




When we're on the trail Carl is always smiling.� Except inside he's frowning because this is his final trail ride in Utah this year.




Yep, that's the trail ahead.




Even though it's quit steep, this is one trail that ain't going to ever wash out.

Wish I could make it there every year. Great scenery, great friends. It is only a 2198 mile trip for me.

Wow, that's rock crawling without a rock crawler. My hats off to you guys. It must have been rough enough to knock carl's LF headlight ring off! Was that "Drain Plug Hill? Beautiful place, thanks for the pictures, John

Bob W, Yep, that's a long ways for you to travel.  Sure have enjoyed the times you have made the trip.  Always welcome.

Oilleaker 1,It is a difficult trail, not dangerous, just a fun challenge.  Even though many of the slopes show a lot marks of tire slipping and spinning, my tires only broke traction in two locations.  However, Carl's never broke traction.  He has Lockrite in the rear axle.  And, it was the day before that he lost the oil pan plug.  We think we remember some time earlier he was wresting with a large rock caught under the engine on a different trail.  That may have knocked the plug lose.

I lost the head light ring a year ago. The slick rock climb from Comb wash to Hotel Rock was a great one. There were several very steep climbs on the rocks. I have been wanting to take that trail for three years. A few times we had a hard time finding the trail as it's all on slick rock. Near the very top we finally had some dirt trail to ride on.

the President will probably make all the trails I have drove the past four years part of a National Monument park and the only way to see them will be on foot. In my four years of traveling the trails I have only seen one hiker and that was this year in Arch Canyon. I have drove 2000 plus miles in San Juan County the last three years.
