Vintage '51 3A pic
« on: March 24, 2014, 03:46:34 PM »
This was on ewillys last year but I just "re-discovered" it while cleaning up some photos on my phone. According to the ewillys blurb it's a '51 3A sporting 1951 dealer plates. It looks surprisingly like the rig sitting in my garage.

Look like mine too! I'm waiting for Lime Street carriage LLC to get a correct pair of "repro" original side step.

The willys litterally replaced the horse on that pics!

Great photo.  Lots of smiles.

The thing that struck me is how short the hood blocks are on that 3A.  I can't imagine the wiper arms not scratching the heck out of the hood. :o

Very cool photo! Hood blocks short and offset, must be an early CJ-3A. Does that make it a VEC? ;D

I was wondering the same thing about those stubby hood blocks. I didn't even notice they were offset until Bob mentioned it but they definitely are.

So a VEC ;D must make it earlier than a '51 then. Any other clues as to what year?

And did all 3A's come standard with those bolt on door brackets?

Ted has offset hood blocks. I think the ones on him are New ones from the PO.

Bob would know for sure, but isn't that the later version of the passenger front fender?

The bumper looks a bit dirty... or worn.  Especially when you compare it to the shine of the wheels.  You would think they would polish it up for a parade... if they could.

That is the later fender which we call a "CJ-3A fender". According to data from surviving vehicles the majority of CJ-3As actually used the last two types of CJ-2A fenders, with just a few "CJ-3A" fenders thrown in, during the first half of 1949 production.
