Topping off the tranny oil
« on: May 24, 2014, 04:21:19 PM »
The engineer that did the layout for the frame and tranny filler location really messed up. If he had spent just another hour at it he could have made it impossible to fill the tranny without pulling the tub or removing the tranny. As it is It only takes about a half hour to top off the tranny oil and get the plug back in before the oil drains all over the floor.

It may be easier to pull the shift tower and fill the tranny form the top. I may try that next time. Oh, and don't even try to fill it if it is just off the road and good and hot.

And what about the drain? They put a hole in the skid plate for the TC to drain through, but not the transmission....

Ain't that cool. He must have forgot to block the filler plug when he covered the drain. Or he went for a cup of coffee and forgot all about the filler.

I have a funnel that works pretty good to catch the drain and I use a pump to fill both the tranny and tcase. Gotta be smarter than the average Willys engineer!

Draining or filling the tranny is not the issue, getting the plug out and back in is the problem. If your hands are the size of a 5 year old child it's easy, if you have adult hands it is next to impossible.

Strange, never had a problem. Yes, I have adult man size hands.

It always those plastic oil jug pumps that give me fits.
