I would rank an 870 as one of the classic american firearms..........ALMOST up there with the 1911 platform. With the amount of gauges, barrels and aftermarket parts it can be configured to do about anything. I have a friend that treats his 870 horrible......drops it in the mud, leaves it in the back of his truck, NEVER cleans it and lets is rust almost solid. When he is ready to use it for turkey season he swabs the barrel, squirts some Rem Oil in it and ratchets the slide 5-10 times. Thats it. It always amazes me the abuse it can take and still go boom.
For me, my favorite shotgun would be a tie between my 870 and my Browning BPS...both in 12 gauge. I have an 1100, but I've never really liked it as much as my pumps...
