Last nights battle
« on: July 18, 2013, 10:35:53 PM »
Last night, I went to park the jeep in the garage, about the time I pulled up the door, a Copperhead snake made a surprise blitzkrieg attack next to my right foot and took up a fortified position under the garage shelves. As I made a strategic retreat, I called up reinforcements(my wife) to guard against a surprise flanking maneuver. With the reinforcements in place, I started on the offensive, weapon of choice: sears garden hoe. After 15 minutes of aggressive, take no prisoners, all out combat, Mr. Snake met his tempered steel demise. After the smoke cleared, we stepped back and surveyed the collateral damage on the battle field.......

Like they say.....war is hell.......

Poor snake. He was just trying to tell you to stay outside and enjoy the ride in the jeep a little bit longer!  ;D

Hmmm.
Kind of like the squirrel that chewed its way into our house and proceeded to chew on the window sashes trying to get out because it was too STUPID to go back out the way it came in. Several hundred dollars damage. >:(

I chased it for 3 days before I finally cornered it and beat it to death with my cane.  :o

No joke.
I love wildlife.
Outdoors.
Not in my house.  >:(

Some people may not like the cold up here where I live, but one of the wonderful side effects of that is that there is not a single poisonous reptile or arthropod in the area!  The idea of having to be careful for critters that could be hiding in the dark spaces in and around the house (and which could kill you or make you very sick) just makes me shudder.

(OTOH, we did encounter a bear while on a family hike yesterday. But like almost all bears, it wanted nothing to do with us, and there was no incident.)

Around here, we've had a relatively mild winter, and the cooler weather stayed around well into the spring, and the summer been mild, so its been a bad year for bugs, snakes, mice and all kinds of vermin. This is the second young Coppperhead we've killed in less than a month, the first was by the front door. As you can tell I DO NOT LIKE SNAKES!
