Hey everyone....we are actually getting a few legit new members joining up.  

This thread will be a place where everyone can introduce themselves....


My name is Bill F. and I am a jeep addict. Wait, no, that's a different forum..  Anyhow I am a pilot car driver, I drive all over the country delivering wind towers to corn fields and mountainsides , occasionally stopping to steer the back end of the 13 axle trailer I normally follow. I have lots of motel time at night to browse all the flatfender places I can find on the web.. I am a volunteer admin for the 3A page, so I get to register new members who email me and kick out members who spam us.

As far as jeeps go, I have been collecting other peoples cast off project jeeps for a long time. Most of my collection looks like junk and parts cars but we know better, don't we...   I own a couple early 2A column shifts, a few military flatfenders, a bunch of random 2A and 3A parts jeeps, and the one I hope to finish next, Pintojeep.. a 3A with a 2.0 liter OHC engine from , you got it, a Ford Pinto.  I like stock jeeps  but Pintojeep is far from a show jeep and it is going to be a fun trail ride when it gets finished, and it may even get out of the way of local traffic down here in Coleman, Texas. It is getting 11 inch front brakes too so I might also be able to stop it.

I also have collected a few DJ3A jeeps, and almost have enough parts to build my own Surrey from one. I am always looking for Surrey Chrome parts and seats. (Iknow, so is everyone these days..lol)

Steve B from the home town of the NE Patriots, new to the Willy's bug.
Just recently got my hands on a pair of '51's. �Both very rough, one is running, the second is just a shell.
The came as a pair and with two additional L134's and an assortment or hard parts (TC's transmissions etc.)

I have a '01 Cherokee and an '86 Comanche as daily drivers, the Cherokee sees mild off-road action.

Hope to get these Willy's roadworthy, not going to mod for off-roading, nor will they be show cars. �I'd like to get them to a point where I have no reservations about driving and enjoying them.

Hi, my name is Pete and I'm new to the restoration scene.  I live about an hour north of Sacramento, CA in a small farming town.  I have a 1952 jeep that my grandfather bought when it was still fairly new.  It was used as a farm jeep and has been in the family since.  My dad got it after my gradfather passed.  I now have the jeep and have just started restoring it.  It was last driven in the early 90s before it was stored in a barn.  It did have some time stored outside.
The transmission is frozen and won't go into gear.  The shifter only moves side to side.  The clutch was bad when it was parked, so I will probably need to replace the clutch and overhaul the tranny.  I recently poured some mystery oil into the cylinders and got the motor to turn freely.  I'm hoping to have the engine turn over by the end of the summer as long as the starter or other more expensive parts are still in working order.
The body is in ok condition.  The driver's side quarter panel is a little bent along with the rear bumper.  I'm hoping that I can save the current tub.  The project is going to be a slow one.  I don't know very much about working on vehicles let alone the ins and outs of restoration.

These little Jeeps are a great first project!  While they do have a few tricks to them, overall they are VERY simple machines and pretty forgiving.  The forum here is great and can answer any question you may have......don't be afraid to ask!

Good luck!  The best projects are always the ones you have a personal history with!

Hi everyone I'm Gordon  and I live in Breaux Bridge La. I have been a gearhead all my life (I'm 65) and have always had a project or two around somewhere. I was able to get hold of my Grandfathers 1946 cj2a after watching it from afar for 20 years. I remember riding in this jeep when I was 5 yrs old so I just had to have it. I am restoring it as a Cj3a because I need the leg room being 6'1" tall. It was in pretty rough shape when I started on it last year. I pulled and rebuilt the motor and temporarily reassembled it to find out what else it needed and found the drive train in good shape so I pulled the body and ordered the new one. While it was coming in I stripped and sandblasted the frame, Fabricated about 1/3 of it over again,painted it and replaced the brakes and brake lines. I then painted the body,fenders tailgate windshield and a new grill and am just finished assembling this and about 1/3 of the way  rewiring so far. The Jeep guys like Walcks and Kaiser willys love me. I'm hoping to finish this as a driver this winter. By driver I mean I like 12v, alternators, solex carbs. new geared starters etc. I hope this doesn't give anyone heartburn. I just want it to look like about a 1949 cj3a when I'm done and start when I want to go. I've had 22 4x4's many of them jeeps. I'm not an expert but I'll try to help anyone if I can.

Unfortunately the jeep had no data plate on the firewall, in Spain vehicle number has to be stamped on the chassis and mine is 29284


As the body has no notch on the dash board I assumed it would be a late 1952 model, but some sources indicate �only about �28.000 CJ3As were built in 1952, as my serial number is higher, I have to start again in guessing when it was manufactured.
Spanish army was expert in changing parts and pieces to make vehicles usable, so it isn't difficult to understand why my Jeep is a mixture of parts of different years, as an example, Go-devil is WOF made in France, probably made in 1962 (I'm sorry, it seems I can't have any sure manufacture date on anything :-/)

To add some confusion, the Jeep has a civilian plate dating from 1958, wich means the army got rid of it very soon compared to spanish standards at that time, as they usually kept the vehicles for 20 years or more.

Serial number 29284 could be a 1952 CJ-3A. The serial numbers began with 10001 so yours would be the 19284th 1952 CJ-3A made. We are looking forward to hearing more about your Jeep.

Since im a little kid i saw that jeep beside that garage, outside, rusty etc telling myself : "could be really cool to have it" but dunno why, just never stop.
Owner said is outside since 1970, he already have a cj2a, not sure about year, and he bought that one in case he broke...but like he said, he never broke loll.
so now for my 40 anniversary , said to wife to organize something with the owner ( old timer racer/mechanic not really in good shape)
Well my wife met him (3months ago) he said for 1k (far too much) to wife, but said tell your husband to come here
my deal is 500$ +40h work with him in is garage (i bring back the little star (dont know the expression in English sorry) in is eyes...
so now i help him once uppon time untile my 40h done, him halfway and got also a new mentor friend �:D

So will start resto, slowly (im not in rush, want it perfect) to bring back the original

i want, in many years, to tell me yes perfect, not not damn why i did not etc..

i �come on forum almost everyday , lots of good stuff here

Hello everybody.  My name is George, and I acquired a 1951 CJ-3A a few months ago.  I had been looking for a flatfender for a while.  It has very little rust in the frame or body, but does need some body work where the spare tire tire bracket bolts on, and above the right rear taillight.  The engine is being rebuilt right now, using a very good "replacement" block I purchased.  I am in the process of taking the power steering out, and replacing it with the original steering equipment.  Whoever put the power steering in was not concerned in the least with cosmetics, so it will be refreshing to see the proper steering parts back in the jeep.  I think it is rewarding to bring something back to what it was originally. I don't have a nice roomy, heated shop to work in, so during the winter I have to wait for nice days, and then I can work on it for a couple of hours.  My jeep has pretty good, but not stock, tires and wheels, and I will be looking for 5 16 x 4.5" wheels, and then put NDT tires on it.  I have quite a ways to go on this project, but I am sure it will be very enjoyable.  I visit this forum almost every day, and really enjoy the information and pictures that are posted.
