Off roading with your Jeep

How many of you CJ2A and CJ3A owners take their Jeeps on off road trails as listed below? I am talking about a stock suspension Jeep with street, off road or NDT tires only.

Pick the number that is the limit of your off roading.

1-asphalt roads only.

2-gentle gravel roads.

3-gravel roads and fording creeks.

4-gravel and dirt roads in hilly areas and fording creeks.

5-gravel and dirt roads in hilly areas fording creeks and using creeks for a road.

6-gravel and dirt roads with large rocks, fording creeks using creeks for roads and climbing and decending steep banks and rocks.

I am curious as to how many drive their Jeeps on asphalt only and how many really use the Jeep as it was meant to be used.

When I get the tranny and axle vents above the floor level I will ford water up to the Jeep floor. I will go almost anywhere with mine as long as I respect the ground clearance and ability to climb. My CJ3A is not a rock climber like the high risers with large tires so I don't try what it can't do.

What do you do with your Jeep? �

You forgot number 7: �Jeep only travels on trailer, and mostly disassembled. Winching is normally required to load. (most of my projects, including several parts jeeps and a 151)

And number 8: �Jeep sits in garage, awaiting work to make it safe to use on choices 1-6..(Pintojeep)


My jeeps look forward to participating on the Northern Colorado trail rides or maybe one of Calvin's Utah fun rides...(Except for the DJ Surrey which is definitely going to be a category one/two. )

Guess I fall into the #4 category, but we don't have the water out here (Colorado) like you guys do in the east and midwest.  When we do, not too many trails cross them and few drive up them.  But a few do.

Calvin did a very good job of finding water for us to drive through in Utah. In fact it got extremely interesting the first day out.

I would say that when mine is done it will fall between 2 and 3.  I have spent a great deal of time and effort into mine and don't want to go to wild off-road with it.  However, I live down 3 miles of gravel road so I have to drive it on them unless I want to make it a trailer queen (which I don't).  I'm building it to drive!

Even though I went to a lot of work to finish every detail, as I did so I knew that I wasn't building a show Jeep. �I Jeeped the area as a kid and I planned to Jeep it as a retiree. �As I was restoring my Jeep I didn't know that my world (my county) had been overrun with environmentalists and BLM agents restricting access and closing roads to so many great Jeeping places. �However, on the roads and trails that do remain, I do go Jeeping. �I want to use my Jeep, just not abuse it. �You've seen my posts with pics.

I must say Calvin lived up to what he posted. When he forged through the trench it scratched the sides of his like new Jeep   . I think he may be able to rub out most the marks but as a trail Jeep it may see a few more marks in the future. Heck, even the new Jeeps didn't stay new long.

In studying all of the options here, I'd have to say mine is 20% a 4, 20% a 1, 60% an 8 with a  100% 5 wanna be.  Sometimes I think the parts just fall off in the garage because Triple X likes to be carressed....must be a female.
