Memorial Day 2011

Frances was honored once again to participate in two local Memorial Day ceremonies this year.

Sunday at Dinkey Memorial Church Cemetery, Carbon County, PA.



Monday at the Slatington, Lehigh County, PA, Memorial Day parade and ceremonies. This was interesting. I was asked if a lady dressed as a WWII Bataan nurse could ride in the jeep. I had an ammo box in the back so my wife sat on it and the lady in uniform sat in front. When she introduced herself I made the comment that I had gone to grade school and high school with a fellow with the same last name as hers, and I mentioned the name. She said that was her husbands name and it turned out to be the same person. How's that for a small world? I hadn't seen him in 52 years!

 ï¿½The pics of your Jeep always stir my earliest recollections and my attraction to the amazing vintage Jeep. �Being born in 1944, my introduction to "Jeeps" was the WWII Army surplus Jeeps that ended up after the war in my little rural farming community. Even as a young boy I was amazed to see where those little Jeeps went and what they did. �Then with the WWII movies that followed for a decade or two after the war staring Audie Murphy, John Wayne, James Stuart, etc., the Army Jeep also became one of my heroes. �Thanks for the great photos.
