What's Your Jeeps Name ?
« on: November 17, 2010, 11:30:46 PM »
When I was about 14 years old or so, way back when in the days of yore, 1975, my dad brought home a 1954 Willys M38A1.  It still wore it's old OD paint, all military markings intact, except the registration numbers on the hood were blacked over (careful use of paint thinner got rid of that).  My dad said if I could get it running, it was mine to keep.  I got my license at age 16, and yes, that Willys was mine.   ;D

On the windshield was stenciled the Jeeps "name", Mud Pie.  I got the nickname Mud Pie "given" to me by friends, as in "Here comes Mud Pie !".

Then the CB craze hit.  I needed a handle.  Naturally, Mud Pie was chosen.

Then the online forums came to be.  I needed a screen name.  Guess what I chose ?  ;)  35 years using the same nickname...

Now, would it be disrespectful of my faithful old Willys to rename my current Willys Mud Pie ?  Is that kind of like calling your new wife your ex-girlfriends name ?  Mud Pie II sounds like something you'd name a boat.

What did you guys name your Jeeps ?  Do they have names ?  If so, how did they earn/get their names ?

I named my Jeep Annabel Lee. That is the title of a beautiful poem by Edgar Allan Poe. I also like the way the name Annabel Lee flows when spoken. You really need to read that poem.

The strange thing is, the name of the only road in our subdivision is Anna Lee Dr. and that too flows off the tongue smoothly. However if you add the bel to Anna and say it then the word Drive buggers it up.

When we bought the lot and then found out the name of the road I was amused about it. I then said I wish it was Annabel Lee Drive and when I said that I realized the words didn't fit together nicely.

Well, I haven't really named my Jeep just yet.  I have just been referring to it as "my little Willy" when the parts store guys ask me what all these are parts for! :)  They are usually pretty happy to see me when I walk in the door though..................I'm pretty sure I've bumped their sales numbers pretty good over the past two years. ;D

When I was tearing down the chassis I had several names for it.........but none that would be appropriate to post online. ::)

Mud Pie, if you rename your "new" Jeep the same name as your old one there is no way it can compare to calling your new wife an ex-girlfriends name. ;D  I've been down that path and let me tell, its a long, cold road and you will be afraid......very afraid. :-X

Mudpie,  My 53 is called "the chicken coup" (actually the "4 wd chicken coup") because when I bought it, it had been stored in a barn and the chickens had taken to roosting in/on it, and we laughed that it was a 4 wd chicken coup.   Fortunately they had not used it for long, and a stop at the self serve car wash on the way home pretty well erased the evidence. I named my Jeep Ike. One interesting little tidbit is that the PO and I stay in touch via my website, and when I posted what I had named him, he emailed me and told me a nice little story about the Jeep. Before he owned it, it was a work Jeep on an Avocado farm for many decades. Along with the 3A, the other farm work vehicle was a Toyota (don't recall what model). The farmer named the two work vehicles Yamamoto and Eisenhower. Imagine my surprise when I found out I wasn't the first to name him Ike :) He even sent me a picture from at least a decade ago of my Jeep with an "I Like Ike" bumper sticker on it.

Mine is called "Billy," named after my Uncle Bill who I got the Willys from.  We always called it "Billys Willys."
Willys is better then Ford! Proove? They don't stample their parts for warranty.

Ferris, I had a dog named Dog once, for the same reasons you mentioned about your Willys.  I like "It".  Jim

My dad got me a "Hobbes" sticker at a car show, of course with Hobbes wearing a newspaper pirate hat. That sticker ended up on my jeep cherokee, so it only made sense that a Calvin sticker ended up on the 3a when it was finished
Its a jeep thing, but you would understand if you have ever lost your wallet.
