My grandfather and dad both owned jeeps. My grandad had a cj3a and my dad had a cj5. I bought this cj3a back in September as a project (not a restoration to be clear) I just wanted a reliable jeep for the weekends that I could drive off and hit the trail.
First I got a rats nest of wireing sorted out and converted everything to 12v. I was finally able to get it running and driving by December without spending any money! Once I got it running, thats when the fun began.
I put on a new master cylender, break pads, break lines, rebuilt the carburator, rebuilt the fuel pump, cleaned the starter and upgraded to 12v, put on a 12v alternator, rebuilt the radiator, rebuilt the water pump, fabrcated a new air filter, acid soaked the fuel tank to remove rust, new fuel lines, new oil line, new tires, new seats, new gauges, and new paint.
It sounds like alot of spending, but I got all this done and my total investment is just under $1500. I am getting antique tags and should have this on the road by the end of the month. I've has so much fun with this project. I cant wait to buy another one. I have a wrecked buick park avanue with a super charged V6 I am saving for my next jeep, but in going to have some fun with this obe first!
