This is my project.

Just a quick back story on it.
The Jeep was donated to My high school in 1994. The instructor funded the project and me and a couple of the other shop kids took on the project. I have no pictures but it had a locked up motor and had been left in a mud hole on a hunting camp in Mississippi. We did the best we could getting it to run and when it was running the shop instructor took it home to play with.
Two years after I graduated he died of cancer. We the students helped out the wife during and after his death. The jeep ended up in storage in a garage with the trailer. Sometime in 2006 she called me and asked if I wanted the jeep. She could no longer keep it.

The CMA56 is what the instructor "Mr. Paterson" came up with.
He went to Columbia military Academy and graduated in 1956.

This is when I loaded it up and brought it home.

I put a new fuel system and it and was able to drive it around.

The front axle was a little rough so I decided to tackle this task. This was the first axle I had ever taken apart but was sure that I could handle it.



There looked like there had been a little water in the front at some point and the outer pinion bearing was shot so I started tearing into it.



The axles didn't look to bad so I re used them.

I the mid 90's parts where a bit hard to find. This radiator was the closest year we could find. It was for a CJ5. We used some creative piping and a funny shroud to make the water go the proper direction.

After 10 years sitting still it had a few leaks so it was time to pull it out and put in something that fits properly.

Great background story, and it's very cool that you were part of it.

The transmition was having a few problems so it's time for a rebuild so I thought I would start with the transfer case.

The first order of business is to clean it up and see what I have to work with.

After a good cleaning it was time to strip it down. This went fairly smoothly and head to surprises.

I think those 1 1/8" intermediate shafts and bearings go bad on a regular basis.....When they finally went to 1 1/4" shafts and the loose roller bearings there was quite an improvement.....
