Checked out the rear differential.  Looks like new.  No noticeable wear.  So I cleaned op the housing, cover and bolts, installed a new gasket and fill with fresh gear oil.

Now what's left is to do the right rear wheel and I can adjust the shoes, fill the brake master, bleed the lines and see if I did all this right.

Did a little more work today.  Got the final brake backing plate and brakes done.  Now to fit the final brake line up front and adjust the shoes and fill and bleed the system.

Below are the photos of the last wheel brake assembly.  Bolts and shims in place.



Bearing retainer and brake backing plate in place.

Splash shield installed and bolt torqued to 30 ftlbs.  Bearing pumpes with grease to make sure it was filling.  Shoes installed along with new wheel cylinder.

Got a lot more done today.  Put the final line on the brakes and filed the brake master cylinder and bled the lines.  Quite a chore.  Tightening all the connections over again after finding myraid leaks.  Done and done now.  Best done with the tub off and real easy.  Cleaned the frame and all part that will show so I can paint with Eastwood rust encapsulator and then OD paint. 

Worked on the tie rod that was wrong and now I have to get a new end.  Hope they have one at Advance Auto tomorrow. 

Pulled off the diff cover  on the front and cleaned.  Put a new seal on and it leaks.  Will take it off tomorrow and put some sealant on it for a better seal.

Flu has really got hold on me.  Started on the way home day after Christmas.  Still want to get things done on the jeep as I don't go to work till next year. Wink

Got the frame cleaned of loose rust and dirt and coated with Eastwood rust encapsulator on the parts that will show as this jeep is a quickie to use till I restore the MB/GPW right.

OD is on both sides now.  Going to let the fog settle and check for light spots and touch up.  Still have to do the middle of the axles but need to get more paint for that.

Hey Zook,
I don't know my DJs at all.  The frame appears to have some 2A and 3A characteristics.  Tranny/TC crossmember looks like a 2A, but the rest of the frame looks 3A.  Am I seeing that right?

The DJ I got uses a 3A frame and rear.� The owner had it modified for 4 wheel by adding the front axle and trans and transfer.� I left it that way and am using the DJ3A body it came� with with slight mods.

Yes the cross member is 2A the PO had bubba'd up the 3A one so bad I couldn't use it and used a 2A one I had.

Replaced the wrong drivers side tie rod that was bent to work with the proper one.  Replaced on tie rod end with a good one and put new dust boots on all.  Tie rods were all tight and are now lubed as well.

Straightend the front bumper a little and welded up the crack on the bumper and frame horn.� I also filled in some extra holes in the bumper and filled the license plate slots as well.

The bumper, tie rods and front axle center are now coated in Eastwood Rust Encapsultor and ready for OD paint when it gets here on Tuesday.  Got to old radiator out and ready for the proper one.  Had to weld on new tabs as they were in a different spot for the other radiator.

Treated myself to a birthday present of working in the shop on my Jeep.  Will post up pics tomorrow of what I got done.
