1969...or newer M151A2 MUTT

so its not a project yet but theres no where else to put it so here it is. I have a 1950 3A that some of you will have seen on here and I stopped posting on the build thread as I am currently overseas in Vietnam with family. My wife is from Vietnam and so we spend a lot of time here, during our trips I've come across many Jeep clones and MUTT's that i thought were clones as they are on solid axles. well today on our way around town i come across this... my wife says its been sitting here as long as she can remember. the vietnamese writing says "order Police", as in civic order (communism). its sitting behind the police station behind a fence and so i can't get right to it. but i did some research and it must be a 1969 or newer due to the front signals and fenders. that makes it an A2. looks like its in not bad shape, now to convince the Police department to sell it to me. I spend a lot of time here so there would be no plan to bring it back to Canada, just build it and drive it here. thoughts?

Interesting, are you in Saigon ?. I was there nearly nine years ago and believe I seen the same Jeep, LOL...... There were quite a few 151's around when I was there. Also a Jeep shop south of Saigon, our tour bus past, but I could only drewl as we passes it, LOL. Enjoy your trip, a very interesting country.

We have a house far south in Ca Mau, it's the furthest south province in the country. Lots of 'jeeps' running around but most are copy bodies on Toyota drivetrain. All of the MUTTS I've seen so far have been the same up until now. This ones original.... I think. I'd like to do a quick clean up, get it running and drive it. Today's Sunday so no one in police station to talk with. I did find a local guy that does the body onto Toyota swaps and for an old POS cj 5 looking thing he wanted $8000 USD. I think that may include some "foreigner tax". I may get a local friend to go talk to the police about this MUTT for me.

Yes it's a wonderful country and great people. So much to see here. I'm planning a 10 day motorbike tour around the North of the country in a couple months. So hot in the south yet the north gets a lot cooler and has mountains. Here it's a rice fields and flat.

Cool, enjoy your trip!.... I did see several International Scouts in the central highlands, that was a surprise. If you get to Saigon, check out the cop shop there, looks very much like your photo, also a very good Mexican restaurant down the street, LOL.

well its a no go... local government is so full of bureaucracy that it seems no one is able to make the call if they can sell the MUTT to me or not. even tried offering some cashola under the table and for that not to work here is almost unheard of, my wife bought her drivers license years ago for 40 bucks without ever turning an ignition key

so i guess ill keep on the lookout for something else, i just liked that one for the originality of it. bummer!

Bummer. I was hoping to see you get that. I'm sure you won't have to look very hard over there for something else nearly as interesting ....and someone willing to trade it for a bag of cash under the table.

I registered my car in Mexico once with all the wrong import documents except for two US $20 bills....one of each DMV attendant.� Money well spent!�

LOL, a long departed MV collector friend once purchased a Sherman Tank from the Mexican Government, more  money passed under the table than over the top!
