What did I get myself into now????
« on: April 10, 2014, 07:23:09 PM »
Just on case anyoneis wondering why I haven't been slamming my 3A project together, this project is in the driveway right now.. I have to loosely get is roughly sorta assembled for transport to NY, so all the spare time is being spent scratching my head and figuring just how to hook up things when nothing is the same year:

We need a good running 300 six to replace this:

Anyone got a pre 84 version with carb they want to get rid of?

Gotta get it together int eh next few days....90 degrees in TX right now....fun fun!!

BTW it is a 62 cab maybe a 63 on a 66 chassis.  A straight axle cab on a twin I beam frame.

Just do what the Bubbas do.
Pile all the parts in the bed and put a sign on it saying all the parts are there.

That is exactly what the two previous owners did.. Not a bolt to be found anywhere!!

Set the engine back in it today, and am working on front sheet metal.. most of my time is being spent figuring out the hardware issues. It is worse because OReillys doesn't stock any SAE body hardware.....ouch.

So far the only huge issues are steering column and shift /clutch linkage. Nothing that can't be overcome with a little elbow grease.. Still need a good 300 six.

I love those Fords.  And you have Flare to boot.  I have a 92 Flare that needs redone.  Maybe after the Jeep.  I have had it since 94.

Yours looks pretty good minus those pesky missing parts. :'(

Well, it isn't zactly MINE.....I am putting it together so it can go on a trailer to upstate NY to my buddies house where he will do the real work on it..

Got most of it together today, engine is in and front sheet metal is loosely installed.. I'll have to put in a few more hours on it to bolt everything up solid for the ride..Here my diesel engine hoist relaxes after installing the drivetrain:

Lots more pics at the album, here:

Couldn't resist a couple of beauty shots...

That has got to be one of my favorite colors for old pickup trucks and jeeps....faded old school blue green.

That's going to be one nice "Ford" when it is done.  I am partial to Chrome reverse and Baby Moons for wheels myself.

Yeah, the current cheapie and rusty custom wheels aren't doing it for me either. I like stock pie plates and off white painted rims for this particular truck but we will see what the owner has planned. He is hoping to drive it this year.

I LIKE it!!!

Can't help it.  I'm kinda  partial to old fords. Mostly because of driving Junkers  back in the day.

Oil gets low in a old ford, the lifters dry out and  it starts making a racket like it's coming apart.....pour some oil in it.....and it would quieten back down and keep going

Oil gets low in a old Chevy.....starts making a racket....and BOOM....

Next thing you know you've got a cracked motor where a rod just came through the block!!!

Trying to rebuild it one piece at a time because almost all of em were either missing or wrong!!!

Just a quick update.. the 66 is in my buddies driveway and blown all apart again.. Today we picked up the rolling chassis from the blaster and epoxy primed and topcoated it.. It looks close to brand new. Gotta love those southern trucks..

It is going to end up with a 300 six as that is what the chassis was designed for originally, and Bob found a nice freshly reman one for a steal of a deal.. The only part of the project that will give us fits is getting the steering column to work, as it has a later power steering box in it and also an older cab than a 66.. It may end up with an Ididit tilt column....

He has been helping me out bigtime with my major cleanup  at my old place so this is one way to repay him a little for all the effort he has been putting in. Besides there are only so many days in a row you can sort junk without going stir crazy anyhow.

I'll get some pics eventually.

That 300 is the best engine Ford ever made. Stupid to phase it out when the sloped the hood.
