The cool thing about them is I can put my 17' tandem kayak in the trunk of my daughter's Mazda.
Or all three of them - 17' tandem, 15' single and 10' single - behind the second seats in my JK (4-door Wrangler).


I play French Horn in a local college/community concert band. We're giving a concert in downtown Chicago next week at Orchestra Hall where the Chicago Symphony plays. It's a pretty big deal for us. Won't even blip the radar of 99.9999999999% of the people around here.

I read a LOT - mostly science fiction and history. That's at the end of the day when my energy level has fallen to the point where sitting up is tiring.

Past hobbies that are no longer possible for me - hiking, bicycling, cross country skiing, etc. Leg strength gone - PPS.
Life changes can deprive you of some of your favorite things.
My philosophy is, if life changes deny you a hobby, find a new one.
I got into kayaking 10 yrs ago when my legs gave out - upper body strength still fine, thank you.
I got into Jeeps about four years ago when looking for a backup vehicle for when a main car would go into the shop. Kind of fell into the 3B and it's grown into a minor addiction - now own 4 Jeeps. Isn't it fun?

Once upon a time, I was into HO trains.  I haven't had a layout since I was a kid, but still liked building/modifying steam locomotives, primarily brass versions and all loggers.  That hobby was always second or third or forth fiddle to Jeeps, skiing, photography, and backpacking and I haven't done a thing with it for better than a decade.  As with John, old age is putting a crimp in some of my activities, but with enough ibuprophen, I still indulge.

The train stuff still comes in handy once in a while.  This past Monday it was utilized again when looking for a replacement for the tiny horn brush spring for the Flamming River steering column in my 3B.

I would still like to build a 46 Chevy pickup:  4x4, 383 sbc Chevy, Muncie SM 465, NP203/205 doubled transfercase, D60 axles, and if I can find suitable wheels and tires, 7.50-20's and use the 1 1/2 ton deep flared fenders.  I have almost the entire divetrain and most of the donar body parts in-hand.  I just spend too much of my time working on the 3B.

Old bikes, especially Schwinns, old tractors, old gas station stuff, old Cub Cadets,  and old houses all interest me. Seems to be a theme here somewhere. Strange, I am such a young guy..... 8-)

Me too. That's why I got into kayaks. As for water, there's some great paddling in southern TX. What part of the state are you in?

I just re-read this thread. Somehow I didn't register this bit about your Chevy. Are you a member of The Stovebolt Forum? You'd fit right in with that project.
