A tasty treat!

For Christmas, I got a White Mountain ice cream freezer for my ice cream engine project. It is a '27 2HP Fairbanks-Morse. The rig is a perfect setup. The belt that goes from the jack shaft to the freezer slips when the ice cream is done, so no timer needed!

This is a half gallon of maple walnut ice cream with no walnuts yet. The end result came out great!

Now that's just cheating.  I remember trips to my Grandparents house where I was the designated cranker.  I didn't get any ice cream if I didn't do the turning.  In hind sight, it was a pretty good deal.  Home made ice cream is the best.

I'm not going to sit there cranking that thing for a half hour when I have these nice engines that can do it for me.   8-) My arms are plenty strong.  ;D

OK, here's the 64 dollar question.
How much fuel does it take to turn out a batch of ice cream?  ;)

Excellent question!!  When I was the cranker, the fuel needed was a slab of ham and some mashed potatos!!

I suspect the Hit and Miss is somewhat fuel efficient.  Lots of centrifical forces at work...am I right GG?

Haha, I don't know know how much fuel it actually consumes, but I know it isn't a whole heck of a lot. That engine is throttle governed, so it is firing most of the time. When the throttle plate is completely closed, it is kind of like a "miss" cycle. My guess is, it is better on gas than a modern briggs.  :o And it has the cool factor.  8-)

I know my 6 horse Famous doesn't use squat. That stupid thing will run for 2 hrs with nothing in the tank. I haven't been able to figure that one out and I don't really care.  ;D

In the future, I want to convert my whole engine collection to early IHC stuff. I'm thinking a nice little 1 horse Famous would be perfect for this rig.
