What do I have here?
« on: November 15, 2017, 08:04:50 PM »
I found this in a salvage yard today.  The body has been widened to accommodate the windshield.  The serial number does not seem correct.  But the price was right, so I own it! Thoughts?!

Neat find! It will be a great project.

For me it solves a long-standing spare tire mount mystery.

I bought a mount long ago hoping it would fit my CJ-5

Never could figure out what it was for.....but we had suspicions..

Your last picture solved the mystery!

It looks like a DJ3A to me.

The DJ did have a variety of body style options to chose from, but I'm not sure if '4 wheel drive' was one of them.  That said, I don't think it would have been a difficult option to offer.

This one's clearly 4WD. Has M-38 rear bumperettes, M-151 mutt wheels. Cool little truck..

Definitely some bits of this and that. :)

What's throwing me is the interior shot.  Side wall cut outs and combo gauge=DJ3A , but if you scroll in tight to the TC levers, the opening looks factory.   :-?

The serial number tag has the wrong screws too. Supposed to be slot head screws, not phillips.
People think I go out of my way to * them off.
Trust me, It's not out of my way at all.

Nice 1962 DJ-3A! Looks like someone has converted it to 4WD somewhere along the line. The guys over on The CJ-3B Page Forums have a section for DJs and I'm sure they would like to see your new Jeep too.

I was able to find a number of interior shots of some Surreys and other DJ models. Looks like the drive train hump is similar to a 3A. The DJs have the opening for the TC levers, but are covered with a plate.

With Bob W chiming in, this mystery Willys has found itself. :)

Toward the end of CJ-3A production phillips head screws were beginning to show up. I would expect 1953 and later Willys Patent Plates to be attached with phillips screws.

Thanks for the info.  I didn't think DJ because of the 4wd.  I just knew it was cool!
