It was bored 40 over, the crank was ground 10 under, 4 new valve guides, all new valves, milled the head, and cleaned everything.

Got the engine all all back together today along with my dual carb intake. There will be a write-up on making the intake once I finish the whole set-up on this jeep.



I also started work on the on board air mount. That's why I didn't paint the whole engine. There will be more on this to come as well.

Got the OBA and alternator bracket done today. I turned down a piece of 1/2" pipe in the lathe so it would fit in the original generator mounts. I only did the ends so there was a shoulder left to keep the pipe from sliding out. From there I made a plate that the compressor was mounted to.



I went to the local hardware store and got some turnbuckles for the tensioners. I made some bushings up in the lathe that fit inside the eyelets. I didn't want to use rod ends because I wanted to keep the "government repair" look. This compressor was nice to use because it had two pulleys.

After lunch, I got the engine all painted and a made up a custom throwout bearing for the T18.

Nate, Nice job on adding the OBAC. Thanks for sharing. I like how you assembled the bell housing, tranny, tc, OD, on a engine stand was that just to paint it all?

Thanks. I put it on there the put it all together because I had to take it all apart to get the input shaft out. It also made it nice to clean and paint as well.

I still have to swap the PTO from the original transmission.

looking great, while i still think your level of tech as compared to my bench seat build is lacking a little ;)

in all seriousness id be interested to hear about any difference in engine performance/economy with the twin carbs (not that it will ever be a race car). as i am sorta new to flatties, was this ever done in the factory?

Trenton, the red 3A you see in the background has had dual carbs for 3 years? I can't remember how long ago I did that. Anyways, they really wake up the Lhead. I noticed much more power and throttle response while getting the same fuel mileage. I used yf carbs from an fhead on that.

This want a factory option. Just something I came up with.
