I'll post some more pictures when I get home from working away this week. But some time in November, I ripped it apart to paint it, but decided not to. I had some stuff to still do then like add my under rear floor compartment and a few more patches. Just wait on titles now!

Did another mod today. Guarantees infinite horsepower. All it requires is a piece of 3/4" emt and an American flag!

Nate,

With the snow we are having I was wondering if you'd be out playing in your Jalopy! Can't wait to get my jeep running. Not sure I'll be out in this weather though!

Yesterday was loads of fun. Got to rip apart the front axle to replace the inner axle seals. The passenger side one was bad and creamy goop was leaking out of it.

On the Dana 30, the hubs come apart the same as a D25 or 27.

To pull the spindle off, a special tool is required. It threads on the end of the spindle and a slide hammer is used to pull it off after take the 6 retaining nuts off.

While I had the spindle off, I decided to replace the spindle bearings. I had put all new spindle seals in previously. A jaw puller and slide hammer pulls those out.

I put the spindles on the lathe and polished up where the hub seal rides and also where the spindle seal rides.

I used a socket to tap the new spindle bearings inlace. Be sure to not tap them in too far or the spindle seal will not work. It rides agains the bearing. Measure the depth before pulling the old ones out.

And then after pulling the axle shafts out, clean up the ends where the inner seals ride with some emery cloth. A really high tech tool is required to beat them out. A 36mm socket on a piece of threaded rod. I put a nut on the inside to hold the socket on as well.

Once both are out, clean the tubes to get the gunk out. Then the tricky part is getting the new seal to start straight. The 36 mm socket fits in the seal nicely. I tapped the seal in and then put a 1/2" to 3/8" adaptor on. A piece of 3/4" pipe sticking through the tubes makes it easy to beat the seal in all the way.

And now it is a matter of reassembling the axle! Happy wheeling!

I don't know if anyone remembers, but in 2011, I built a matching trailer for my '53.

Anyways, I stopped using it with that jeep. So I converted it to spring over, put some BFG KM2 mud terrains on it and I also did away with the dumb drop down leg I had mad to look like a Bantam. The leg is still there, just don't need it now. I wan't to use the trailer for multi day wheeling trips. I can put all my camping gear and supplies in it. Maybe even put my tent on it so I'm up off the ground.
