Coastal Georgia
« on: July 01, 2019, 10:43:41 AM »
I am excited about the 1949 CJ3a I am getting from my Father-in-law. He currently has it in Minnesota. I'll be shipping it down to me soon.

It is all in driving condition, but may need some work on the brakes.

I would like to restore it to original look as much as possible. It currently is a dark brown color which I do not believe is original, but have not been around it enough yet to look for old paint.

I am looking forward to learning as much as I can here. I am not a mechanic by any means.

Thanks in advance.

Joe

Welcome Jeeper !
The inner grill and under the main tub tunnel areas are often good to determine the original color.

I would add up under the dash and inside the tool box.  Over the years many of these Jeeps have had color changes.
Get a shop manual, ask questions and post pictures.
Welcome to the madness.

I matched my paint to a patch of original paint I found under the transmission tunnel that was covered in 60 year old oil and dirt! It sounds like a great project and one that you can drive while you work on it. Welcome, also.

I'll add one more location for original paint: behind the Identification "Patent" plate on the firewall.
Good luck on your Jeep!
