Need your opinion on a trailer
« on: January 26, 2015, 08:44:25 PM »
I saw this trailer for sale not very far from me. He is asking 650$.

Look like at least a 194x-1950 trailer.

There is no sign or Plate on it. Is this can be a Bantam?

Don't know what to do.

Whichever it is, the pics look quite nice--and the cover, depending on how long it's been on, has protected the floor from moisture/rusting.  Looks like it's worth the asking price.

It does look nice.......Military would have had a lunette...has the hitch been altered?

What to do?

Make him an offer!

Edit: I don't think the info on the side hooks was accurate, so I took it out...all the pics I looked at had four hooks per side....

Everything I see says Bantam except for the hitch. Looks like that was changed out at some point.

I vote M100 trailer. Brake handle style is different than earlier Willys or Bantam. You can still see where the storage box was mounted on the front. M100's also had those grab handles on the corners. M100 safety hooks were larger than Willys or Bantam.

I am not an authority on these so any of my observations could be wildly inaccurate but that's what I see...

Neat trailer either way.

Edit: Upon closer inspection it looks like the lunette is there except for the eye or the "doughnut". Someone likely cut the eye off and put that current coupler on. You could probably remove the coupler and weld an eye back on. Real or reproduction lunettes are huge money if you can even find them so having one remotely salvageable is definitely a plus.

Here's a chopped lunette with a civvy coupler added.

And here's an M100 I found last fall with a slightly less permanent coupler addition. You can't see the actual coupler in this pic but you can see how it's bolted on. Don't we wish all PO's used this method???

I too see M-100 stuff.  Originally, the M-100 was designed to float, so there was no tailgate.  This trailer has had the back side cut out, then someone welded it back shut.

I would want to see the floor before I jumped on this, but if it looks good, $650.00 is a good price for that trailerat least in the Colorado market.
