Trailer hitch on Jeep

I just noticed something I have wondered about but forgot to ask. My Jeep has a hitch plate that is straight. You can see it in my thread about license plates. Calvins Jeep has a stepped plate, that is it has two bends in it so it can be put on with the ball high or low.

Now I am wondering is the Jeeps came with two plates. One that can be flipped for a high or low mount and a flat plate for a middle mount.

Does anyone know if this is so and where can I get the bent plate or do I have to make one for myself?

Only the very very early Jeeps had flat hitch plates. Can't really tell from the photo but I suspect yours was fabricated by a previous owner. I've got a "normal" offset plate you can have. The hole is kinda egg shaped from running with a loose ball.

I just went and gave mine a close look see and it is home made. It is torch cut and a real good job at that. So good I never gave it a second look.

The CJ2A parts Jeep I have has a Rube Goldberg hitch on it.

When I get it from Bob I'll make a drawing and email it to you. What I'll do is make a template of the part without the bends and a side view showing the bends. That way you can have a blank sheared or burned out and then have it bent.

Do you want a template of my flat hitch plate? With both you would have three different heights for the ball.
