Thanks for the advice guys.  I have 1 manual but I was VERY disappointed with it I am going to order a new one.  I think I may be trying the exchange this coming weekend so I will let you know how it goes.  I have a transmission jack so that is covered.  The tub is off the parts jeep so it will be very easy to get to it.  I will let you know how it goes. If anyone has any last minute advice before the weekend gets here(I know its a few days away) Please post it up.

The transmission/transfer case in my 52 is in bad shape.  It is very loud and hard to shift into 2nd and 3rd.  I just bought another jeep for parts and I do not know much about the transmission but I want to try it and see if it is any better before I go through the expense of trying a rebuild.  My question is can I separate the transmission from the bell housing on both and swap them that way?  what will I run into or should I just pull them bell housing and all?

Ha..  athawk11 I am trying hard NOT to let all hell break loose(my wife thinks it already has since we now have 3 full CJs and 1 half Cj sitting around)

My name is Joel I am new to old Jeeps but I have enjoyed newer Jeeps for some time.  I am currently working on my 1952 CJ3A.  I am doing what I call a working man's restore on it.  I bought my CJ because a buddy got one and I drove it once and was hooked.  I am a little impatient so I am trying to keep it drive able during the summer and do major work to it when it is cold here.  This summer I focused on making it mechanically sound.  When I bought it out of a barn not far from where I live the roof had blown in on it.  So the windshield frame was wrecked and the steering column was bent.  It also had a stuck valve (had not run in 15 years).  I tore into the top half of the motor got the stuck valve out learned to grind valves and went through each one.  Anyway long story short after working most of the summer on the motor-new brake lines-master cylinder rebuild-new gas lines-new tank-new fuel pump-carb rebuild- built a new steering column-repaired steering shaft(will replace when I can afford one) I have it running great.  Tranny and transfer case needs some love leaks like a sieve but it is drive able and I have been driving it and enjoying it.  I just bought another CJ3A for parts (with a registered frame may do something with it) It has a perfect hood -windshield frame-correct intake manifold(mine is wrong) so I have a lot to do.  This winter I plan to start body work but not get in so deep I do not have it ready to drive in time for summer..  Ok that was long..
