As often said... a picture is worth a thousand words. I couldn’t visualize how the brass nut would secure the wiper arm to the motor shaft. Because all the arms I am familiar with you just push the arm onto the serrated nut.

It’s ironic ... I can rebuild a $100,000 refrigeration compressor but a Jeep vacuum wiper motor takes 1-1/2 pages of posting for me to see the light. LOL Oh well it is what it is.

Thanks guys for all your help and patience and of all the pics you posted for me. I’m having fun getting this old Jeep back into original operation condition.

Yes thd nuts on Carl walcks site look correct and very much cheaper than the nos brass nuts I bought a few years back.

Bill,
What you're showing is the nut I had before.  It goes under a more modern style wiper arm that fits OVER the nut.  Look again at OT's image of the arms and wiper motor shaft.  There's a correct nut on the shaft thread.  The original nut is threaded on after the arm is positioned on the shaft splines.  Look closely at the image OT posted.  You'll see the corresponding splines on the inside of the mounting hole on the arm.

I believe this one from Walck's is the same type:

https://walcks4wd.com/nut-vacuum-wiper-arm-to-motor_p_1921.html

I got one from Harry Sheets - http://www.midwestwillys.com/

Assembled, should look like this on Lawrence Wade's '55 (also note - as OT said, for venting, motors turned upside down and the curved inlet/barb is pointing the other way):

How does the brass nut differ from the nuts that are attached to my wiper arm? I have attempted to post a pic of what I have. The fellow that oldtime recommended as a possible source is he a vendor or a forum member?

Will the two piece nuts I have (hmmm!) work with the nos arms, which incidentally I have ordered.

Thanks guys for all your help. It is much appreciated.

Yes buy two of those arms then simply heat to a very dull red and change the bend.
I think Pete has his numbers messed up on that part.
He lists it as a 636336 but the actual part number is 663636 for a 2A only.
What he shows is clearly a 689794 for the cj-5.

I bought one of these.  I wouldn't wait....

Suggestion?  Buy two then you can think on how to remove and "180" one of the arms to match the passenger side while you continue to shop for an original one.

Also, a long shot.  Look here at the vacuum motor.

http://www.debellajeepparts.com/CJ2A_BODY_CATALOG.htm

Scroll down until you get to the table listing parts by part number.  Click on the vacuum motor, WO-663366, to open the image.  To me, it's the wrong side to be definitive, but it has a straight inlet/barb.  I'd want to see the other side before purchase since SF-634-XX is stamped vs. 616-1.  Perhaps OT knows more on this.

RH and LH arms

This little brass nut is scarce however Armytankguy may have some.

I’m anxious to get the motor I disassembled cleaned up and tested, first time trying this task. IF it works and it parks with the blade pointed towards the driver side I will install it until I can find the 616-1 motor.

Oldtime if it’s not an inconvenience and at your leisure could you post a pic of the wiper arms and blades? I have a few stored away but don’t know which is correct.

The SF 616 and the SF 616-1 motors are identical except for the base plate and the changed orientation of the hose fitting. All other parts on them interchange.

In fact the CJ-5’s SF 634 and SF 634-1 are identical to the SF 616 motors except that the wiper shaft does not exit the chamber toward the inboard side of the motor. So there is no hole on the cover for the wiper shaft and there is no way to add a manual lever.
The difference being the 1) wiper shaft itself 2) the inboard cover plate less the shaft exit hole 3) no chrome handle

Personally I much prefer theese 616 motors with their small manual handles over all other Trico Jeep motors.
I feel that the manual control handles are a huge plus yet the extra large size of handles seen on military Trico motors is way overkill.

I only have one wiper motor, driver side. The stamped part number left the motor when the paint did. But since it has the curved inlet fitting and parks to the right I feel it is a 616. The passenger side has the manual wiper. My copilot says SHE wants a powered wiper. Since my goal with this Jeep is to put it back to as original equipment as I can find she will get her powered wiper. LOL

Not for sale. I bought them from blue moon scooter out of  Vietnam.
If your drivers motor is marked SF 616-1 then it seems almost certain that your RH and LH motor parts got changed around.
The dash -1 motor should have the straight inlet tube.

Oldtime since my last post I discovered that the 616-1 did have the chrome helper handle and you confirmed that question. Thanks so much for the pics, they were what I have been trying to find. It’s easier to hunt for something when you know what the part looks like. And yes, I believe the two motors I have are the ones made for the cj5.

You mentioned you have nos  arms and blades, are they for sale? I would be interested if so.

Thanks for the help... Bill

Yes both TRICO model SF 616 (driver) and SF 616-1 (passenger) for Willys CJ3 will have the little chrome handle.
If you have an otherwise identical looking wiper motor without the chrome handle then it is most likely Trico model SF 634 which was the standard on early CJ5’s.
Other than the chrome handle those two models are identical.

Here I show you qty of 4 NOS Trico wiper motors as is used on Wilys model CJ-3B.
Two drivers side with curved inlet and two straight inlet for passengers.
All with chrome handles.

If you need other views or more pics I also have NOS arms and blades for these motors.

Note also when these same wiper motors were used with CJ3B ventilating windshield, they were mounted upside down. Flipping them causes the blades to be parked toward the outside of the glass.

Oldtime and Rus thanks for the information, every little bit helps. The motor I have for the drivers side has the curved inlet and the manual lever and parks to the right, blade pointing towards the passenger side. And it works, needs some internal cleaning I’m sure. The other two motors I have have the straight barb and no manual lever. One does not work, the other works half-assed. Blade will swing in one direction but will not return with out pressing on one of the two gizmos that cycle the blade direction. I do not know at this point which direction this motor parks. I have disassembled this motor for cleaning and am curious to see if that will correct it’s operation.
I am hoping someone knows if the passenger motor has the manual lever. For some reason I don’t think it does.

Hi guys

I’m trying to find a pic of the passenger side wiper motor which was an option for the CJ3A. Currently it has the manual wiper for the passenger side.I have the Willys part number WO-672778 and the Trico part number S-616-1. I have two or three motors but there are no markings on them other than patent numbers. Some have straight connection barbs and one is curved. One has a manual wiper attachment, l’m guessing that one could be for the driver side.

Doing some searches I have found a couple of post that would have shown the motor but the images had expired.
I would appreciate any pics of your setup or documentation.

Thanks.... Bill

Both blades are inward and down when at rest.
As you noted you must have correct wiper motors in proper location for that to happen.
The “ at rest” position of the motors is not adjustable.
SF 616 should have small chrome arm for manual swing.
Otherwise it is some other TRICO model
That allows you to clear the windshield with heavy snow build up.

Had to copy/paste to see some posts (that's the only reason I copied them here).  I tried to find some images that were here.  I also compared them to a CJ3B wiper motors too.

From what I can tell, one motor has a curved inlet/barb (driver's I believe) and a straight inlet/barb (passenger's I believe).  I found some good close-ups of Tumbleweeds here:
https://cj3apage.com/Forum/index.php?topic=1193.msg9412#msg9412

Scroll down to near the bottom.  I can't tell if that vacuum line/hose is the correct routing but it seems logical.

This is athawk11's with some close ups confirming curved on the driver's side:
https://cj3apage.com/Forum/index.php?topic=4514.msg36782#msg36782

There's got to be a "Y" or "T" connection of some type - to split off and connect to the passenger wiper motor, but I don't know what it looks like nor exactly where it sits.  If the driver's wiper motor has the curved inlet/barb, it would suggest the split would be under or towards the left of the driver's motor.

Comparing these motors to the 3B, they appear the same.  BillT, the part number you listed matches the part number in my copy of the CJ-3B Parts Manual for the passenger side.  And like OT stated, the one I have on mine has the little chrome arm on the back of the shaft to "help" the wiper when needed.
