Have you tried it with the cover off? See if it still runs with the cover off. If it does there's a short internally. If it doesn't there's a problem with the switch mechanisim.

Another thought might be to insulate the motor housing from the body of the Jeep, if it works fine when you have it in the air, but it grounds out when you put it on the jeep you can test that.  Set it up on your bench like you would if you were mounting it on the jeep, put juice to it and turn it on, then with a multimeter you can test for the grounding out condition.

You might check the park switch inside, sometimes the contacts stay closed all the time. Maybe yes, Maybe know ;D ;D ;D

I have a old Bosch windshield wiper motor. I cant seem to be able to get the wiring right.
Has a on of switch on the back. I wired it direct and motor runs all the time. I know I could just put a switch on my dash. But I want the original switch to control the motor. It seems that the ground  is getting shorted when I use the housing. Switch off, nothing. Switch on, no motor. Wire gets HOT and will smoke.

Called Bosch tech support - NO HELP - to old - they do not keep spec sheets around long.

Do I need to send pictures to help solve this case?
