What thickness metal do you use for replacing body panels such as the floor?

Paragraph T-1 on page 249 of the Willys Jeep Universal Service Manual says all major body panels are 18 gauge steel.

Metal gauges have a tolerance and what was refereed to as 18ga when our jeeps were built is now about 17ga. I used 16ga when I built my floor to give just a tiny bit more material to weld to. It worked out really well.
