Another question/issue.  I installed a new emergency brake cable and at the end where it attaches to the cross member it does not go straight to the brake arm but rather comes out of the sheath and then angles sharply to the arm.  The end clip has two holes  one large one small to hold in in a certain position so I am confused.  Here is pic I found on CJ2A on how its supposed to look:

That clip should have a tab on it pointing down.  The big hole is for the bolt/nut to secure the cable housing to the crossmember.  The little hole is for the tab to align the cable housing with the direction the cable needs to be in alignment with the arm.

In this link, scroll down to find athawk11's post where he shows both ends of the cable housing and how each is anchored.  That's a pretty good image of the lower clamp and you can see that tab in the smaller hole.

If your clamp is missing the tab, it will spin and not hold its position.  KW's offering for that clamp:

It has the clamp.  That's what I am confused about as it is not directing it like I thought it would

I can see your images now.

That's one of the toughest places to get a good image.  Everything seems to be in the way.  The large hole in the crossmember should be for the bolt.  It appears like the cable is very close to the rear engine support (under transmission) which is how mine is and what I've seen in other examples (incl the link I added earlier).

It's difficult to say for sure based on those images, but the cable conduit (housing) shouldn't be hugging the transmission on its way back, but allowed to flare out after the bell housing clip so it can align to that crossing angle needed for the internal cable.

Even if the conduit is in the clamp and the tab is in the crossmember hole, if its not secure the conduit can move.  My parts manual says5/16" - 24 x 7/8" (I think I used 1" length).  I wiggled and positioned first then clamped it down.

Look at these images for additional reference.

ill have to fuss with it more.  Its not working anyways.  I think I need to adjust the brake inside the housing. its not holding the jeep.

Shark,
How long is the arm on your brake, from the pivot point to where the cable attaches? CJ5 and maybe some others used a longer arm that won’t work if the shorter one is corre. I believe that all of the flatfenders used the short arm. Ill get out and measure one of each here in a bit.

Got the blinkers connected and the taillights working so took it out for a spin today.  Belt squeals a bit but ran like a top.   Alternator has been a thorn in my side.  However, towards the end of my trip when I would let off the gas there would be a slight whistling sound.  Any idea?  Maybe some kind of vacuum pull?  I replaced the pcv filter so don't think it's that.  I can't repeat the sound when sitting still and I move the throttle.  It's really strange.  I also noticed that its sucking a little oil into the air horn from the fill tube so I unhooked that.  Now I'm wondering if its whistling there....

I didnt get a chance to measure a lever but 5.5” sounds about right. The long one is considerably longer than that.
Oil in the crossover tube and air horn is a sign that the PCV system isn’t working. Whistle on deceleration is almost certainly a vacuum leak. If your PCV system isn’t complete and working properly it could explain both problems.

Hmm.  I replaced the screen and rubber seal on it.  I did notice a exhaust leak right at the down pipe wonder if that is adding to the issue?

Hiya, on another subject, I think you suggested in one of your previous posts that you were replacing your solex. Did you do it and how did it go.
