I'm good friends with a Willys guy who lives in Charleston. He's a good welder too. If you're close, I'm almost sure he'd help you with this repair and any other Willys related chore.  He's very passionate about Flat Fender Jeeps...and quite a character.

Plug welding is a very common technique.  It's pretty easy to learn too.

Thanks athawk11 ..... I‘m about as far from Charleston as you can get, up on the Ga./NC  state lines. I’m sure there are some good welders up here, I just have to find them.  Thank you very much for pointing out the plug weld, I like that.
We’re taking off on a two week camping trip the 27th when we return I will get started on this repair.
