Engine plate Generator hole steel bushing size

Hi folks,
My engine is at the machine shop and I'm cleaning up engine peripherals. My engine plate showed signs of having something welded to the passenger side hole...the generator mounting hole. There is nothing there but a hole and weld spatter. I ground down the remnants of the spatter, then I looked on the 'net and see that there should be a steel tube section, or bushing, or something welded to the plate. As near as I can tell it sticks out the backside a little bit.

I'm thinking of going back to a generator (I converted to alternator when I rebuilt the Jeep) sometime and of course this is the ideal time to fix that mount.

Can anyone tell me what size that bushing/washer/tube should be? Info on the I.D. of the tube and how far does it stick out the back would be helpful.

Do you still have the rear gen bracket?  I want to say front and back are the same; same bolts same rubber bushings.

Well, geez, that's a good idea. I do have that bracket someplace. And I'd guess you're right, it's probably the same size.  Hm, thanks!

Well I don't know if this is of any use, but I can't get to it to measure so a picture of the front of the plate and the rear are attached.

Also, when I took my engine apart I found that someone had used steel generator bushings in place of the rubber, front and rear.....I did get an outside measurement of one of the bushings....

Thankyou 55, those are nice  high res shots.

I wondered why they used rubber bushings...did they want to "float" the gen housing electrically? Or was is simply for vibration control? Why wasn't it mounted solid? I can't see how vibration would be a problem in the generator (big bearings) and motor (fairly smooth runner).

Well, I found a lock collar at tractor supply that matched up pretty nicely in dimensions except I had to bore out the I.D. and I also need to weld up the set screw hole. Nice thing is it was less than 3 dollars. The collar is a hard-ish alloy so boring was tedious but a boring bar and a lathe helped it come out okay.

Question now is how to set the bushing in the plate; either fore or aft of the front surface. It's all over the place in pictures on the internet, but going by '55's images two posts up I'm going to weld it in so that the front face of the steel bushing is flush with the front face of the engine plate.

The front plate on our engine has the bushing flush with the rear of the plate. Based on how the generator mounts, I don't think it really matters either way.
