Front brake drums
« on: June 04, 2015, 04:36:32 PM »
Guys,

I have locking hubs on the front two wheels.  They are the non-warn type, you know I have the ones with the two levers.   I have removed the six bolts and the lock mech seperated from the front hub, but not by much
(1/4 in?). Can I just pull on the lock?  How much force should I have to use?

Am I going about this wrong?

Thanks
Zeke

You have dualmatic hubs it sounds like. If you engage the hubs, the outer piece should pull off. With them disengaged, the two "rods" will catch the star on the axle shaft. You'll see what I mean when you get it apart.

The main portion of the hub will not come off, because there is either a snap ring or nut on the end of the axle shaft.

Here its not dualmatics but cutlass hubs but anyway, you can see the snap ring that hold the hub assembly. You should be able to pull the hub with your hand.

Thanks, guys!

My real problem was that I was trying to remove the whole assembly.  After carefully re-reading the advice I see that only the end needs to be removed.

Problem solved.
