looking for a low profile carb
« on: December 26, 2013, 11:02:07 AM »
Hey fellas, I was looking for a little help.
I have a 134 F head in my '51 cj3a. The P.O. cut a rectangular box into the hood to allow room for the carb with air cleaner.
Im looking for a low profile set up so I can remove the box from the hood and go back to a stock look.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I will add pictures later today

The Holley 1904 one barrel that was used on early 144 ci Ford Falcons is supposed to work. I've not tried it. I've read about this somewhere. I'll see if I can find a link....

Let us know how this turns out. I nearly bought a 3a with an f-head. I read all about the different ways of making it fit, including doing a slight body lift.....

Depending on the diameter of the carb/air cleaner mating ring, you could go with an early Bronco low profile air cleaner.  My 3A came with a Ford V8 and an Autolite 2100 carb, so,the air cleaner will work for me.  I'm hoping it'll keep me from having to struggle with air cleaner figment under an unadulterated hood.

Here's a pic of the air cleaner box I'm talking about.

Ok this is right out of left field.....  Hmmmm, never mind.....    I was looking at my 1945 ford 2n tractor and realized that it had a side draft carb.  About the right volumetric and certainly adaptable for a F head.  Would require no body surgery.

Has anyone tried one of these from a 2n or 8n ford?
