Tim I have had some fun welding tanks before. �I watched from a far as the fumes were purged, washed and then flashed. �It all seemed perfectly normal for a kid. �My job was to weld it after it was safe to do so. The fun part was watching as my mentor duck taped a propane torch to a broom handle them reached around a corner and made sure the tank was ok for me to weld. I miss those days and a miss him.

That is not an original tank so it's dimensions may not be accurate.

Thank you Bob. �I should have guessed. �The tank looked so much better than anything surrounding it. �Now what to do? �Anybody know if a repo gas tank actually fits in a repo tub. �I�d bet a beer it will not. Maybe I can find a good used one.

Time to start on something else.

Thanks Nate. �I will include a new tank in tomorrows planned purchases.

Anybody know if the holes for the pedal shafts are round or oval? �My original tub has oval holes but they might have been worn that way. Just want some confirmation before �I cut them out.

hi guys
i have welding on differant tanks by put the exhaust from a runnig truck into the opening of the tank , which drive the flume out and then you could weld on it. or you could solder it as the isnt any fire with a solder copper.

Just in case anyone is searching in the future and hits this thread I will put the same drawing link in here with the fuel tank opening ..

it is a drawing of an early CJ2A quarter panel showing the opening for the fuel door. (The piece the tank spout goes thru that is spot welded to the quarter panel) �It shows the tool indents for the very early models , don't pay any attention to them. As far as I know the 3A panel should be the same for the fuel opening dimensions. If anyone knows differently please let us know. �:)

My holes are oval.  They look pretty clean, so I don't think they were worn to this shape.

Oval it is. � I just have to figure out how to make them.

I need to order a new tank. �I have run across two different repo tanks and I�m looking for feed back on which one will fit like an original.

Tank #1 is a omix-ada




Tank#2



Tank#2 no hold down bracket and has a very long and what looks like a out of location filler neck but I don't have an original tank to compare it to.

If you have a die grinder with a cylindrical burr on it you can oval out those holes. Before you do that, trace the holes on a piece of cardboard and make sure they are exactly the same, not worn to the shape you see now. I am not entirely convinced the holes were oval originally but don't take my opinion on it. Also, if you have a chassis punch like electricians use you can use it to take a bite out of the existing hole and get it closer to the shape you might want.

As far as tanks go the second one looks strange to me.. Who supplies that one and what is it supposed to fit? I have quite a few original tanks that leak badly, and if I have time today and can find a good one I will see if I can find one that hasn't been patched up to take a pic of. The Omix tank may fit their tub, I do know some have had problems with it fitting a stock tub.

Hi Steve.

This is the tank I purchased. �It's not the cheapest option, but the filler neck fit perfectly. �I did have to trim the fuel line and drain holes in my floor pans, as they did not line up quite right. �Not sure if this was the Classic Enterprises floor pans, the Walcks tank, or my positioning of the pans. �None the less, this was an easy fix compared to a mis-aligned filler neck.

I used Jpets drawing and my repo tub�s filler neck hole is .177� �high �when measured on the outside. �

F Bill, �Tank #2 is being sold on Ebay.

I have ordered the Omix-Ada fuel tank. �At lest I can cut it apart and weld it back together if I have to. And I don�t have to worry about blowing myself up doing it. ;D

Tim, I think the tank Walcks sells is the same tank that everybody else is selling i.e. the Omix-Ada

Tim, �So I am not alone when it comes to hitting the 150 dollar mark? :)   It 's a win win as far as I can see.  Especially when you buy a CJ3A in boxes like me.
