I bought one of Carl Walcks Tight steer devices and installed it today. Boy is that nice, almost all of the side to side play in the sterring wheel went away, the bump went a way and its real smooth all through the steering cycle.
As I said in an earlier response, I've been watching this thread closely for a possible solution for the red CJ-2A that you've seen in so many of my posts. I decided to purchase a TightSteer unit. I was more than impressed with how it worked. The adjuster on the steering box had been tightened too tight to try to keep the sloppiness out. In doing so whenever you turn to the left or right (away from the worn area) then the steering became uncomfortably tight. After installing the TightSteer the tightness was gone when turning left or right and so was the sloppiness when driving straight down the road. If your worst steering problem is the steering gear box, TightSteer is a great solution.
When it arrived I was surprised that Carl Walck hadn't removed the manufacturer's name from the box it came it. Even the paperwork that came with it gave the manufacturer's price. Same price $79.95 but postage and handling was listed as only $7.50. I looked up the address:http://www.siminoffjeeparts.com/TightSteer.html There was more info about it along with alternate springs for different possible needs.
One of the greatest deterrents in buying the TightSteer was the $15 shipping Walck's charged. I thought that was a lot of money for a small package. I'm surprised that Carl wouldn't ship it for the same price that the manufacturer does. For what it worth, now you know.
I do endorse TightSteer wholeheartedly.
