Ross Steering Box rebuild issue
« on: June 13, 2012, 03:21:38 AM »
So I have "Most" of my steering box apart and soaking in some cleaner.  What I can't figure out how to remove is the lower bearing race.  It's still down in there along with a snap ring and the disk that the 12" or so copper tube is brazed onto.  I'm woried about getting to heavy handed and hurting that tube as i've heard it's one of those things you have a bear of a time finding.
What i'd like to do is find a socket that is close in size and us it to drive the disk with the tube AND the race up into the middle of the box.  Same way the exploded drawing shows.
Is this the way to do it or will I damage my tube set up?

Thanks,
-John

Shalka,

The lower race just may have some crud holding it in.  It is removable.  It is not press fit.  It will slip in and out of position.  Mine was stuck also.  I cleaned up the box, inspected the race for issues, (none) and left the lower race in.
