ADjusting brake shoe clearance
« on: June 13, 2012, 10:46:35 AM »
Re-doing the brakes and finding another aspect to the franken-jeep. Seems that one of the rear brake drums does not have the feeler gauge slot. Any suggestions on setting the shoe clearance? Is it more art than science? By that I mean, I figure that I should adjust the shoes to where the drum doesn't turn, then slowly back off until they just barely rub?

Thoughts?

That's what I do, back it off until it just barely rubs. I usually start on the bottom adjuster then go to the top. I have to go back and forth a few times to get it just right.
