Degreasing Motor ????

  Today I used Eastwood Rust Encapsulator on my frame  Then Chassi Coat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I looks GREAT  /   My ? iz  :-/ what do Yall recomend to Degrease motor /. trans case /         differential  housings  / etc.  to get ready to paint    ??                                  Ive  been  trying  gasoline  &   then        a pressure washer    ??

I use Gunk engine degreaser for hard jobs. I have a one quart spray can I use with an air hose and 50/50 gunk and gasoline. If it's a real hard job just straight Gunk. Don't leave it on to long because it will dry out. Follow the directions.

I like Carls idea better than mine.  I used a Zep industrial degreaser, but it took 2 or 3 shots and soaks to get all the gunk off.

I did discover early on that the use of a putty knife and scraping as much off as you can prior to a degreaser will save a lot of chemicals.

I looked at Auto Zone when I was ordering parts for my overhaul and all they had was the spray Gunk. It should work ok but I like mixing it with gas from results using it myself.

Definitely scrape/wire brush off as much as you can.  It will save a bunch of time and chemicals.

Before painting I used a product called prep-all. I always called it grease and wax remover in the body shop. It is the final wash before painting and gets rid of all finger prints and oil and such. Comes in aerosol and gallon cans. Gallons are about 10.00 bucks.  Cleans heavier grease too.

Don't forget the old standby, oven cleaner the $1 store kind not the expensive stuff!!!! Found this stuff years ago for use as a degreaser in a pinch.........

I went the conventional route first trying engine cleaner and a pressure washer.  My gunk was a nice 60 year layer as thick as a floor mat.  After my lack of success with the above I switched to a grinder with wire wheel and wire cup.  It made a hell of a mess but cleaned it up great.  If you go this route wear a shirt you are willing to part with as you'll never be able to clean it.
