Spindle Bushing for Rezeppa vs. Bendix
« on: January 09, 2012, 10:17:05 AM »
OK, I'm replacing my front right axel spindle because the wheel bearing surface was pitted with rust and no longer true to round. I have an old 3A frame and axels in our yard (much to my wife's displeasure) - and I thought ah-ha! I can just pull off the spindle from this one and use it on my complete 3A - my own personal junk yard. The spindles look the same and they both have the bronze flanged bushing on them. The bushing on the replacement spindle looks OK but I thought I'd replace it anyway while I had it apart. The replacement spindle came from a Bendix axel, and the one it's going onto has Rezzepa axles

Two questions: First - I looked up the bronze flanged spindle bushing on the Wlacks site, it specifies that it this part is for Rezeppa and spicer axels only. was there a difference in the bushings on the 3A bendix vs rezeppa? They look the same.

Second, how do you get the old bushing out, and seat the new bushing? t looks like a bushing puller with a slide hammer/side facing grips would be able to pull out the old one and I could tap the new on in place, however I'm thinking about letting a machine shop do it. Thoughts?

Thanks

Thanks.  That section of Vern's site was very helpful.  I've gotten some great tips from his sites before, but did not think to look there for the spindle info.
