Heat Riser Removal

The flapper in the manifold is frozen shut so I sprayed a bunch of PB blaster to loosen the darn thing. I used a little too much wrench and broke the end off the shaft. Now I need to replace the the riser/shaft/bushings. Does the shaft need to be driven out the side (longest end out first)? I don't want to do any hammering in the exhaust manifold before I get some good advice.

Anyone know of a place I can get a new flapper? I got the shaft out by drilling per the instructions given. Worked great.........

I had looked all around for a new flapper.  No one seemed to have one.   The best I could find was an old one that I could cut the old shaft out of and then weld back together over the new shaft.     They are producing complete units out there that include repop flappers so you would think someone is making them out there.  But I never could find a source to buy just the flapper plate alone.

Actuall I found one that worked for me. It is out of a tuchumsuh engine.  It is called the throttle shutter.  It is off of a WALBRO carburetor HH80-120  or VH80-100 for a 16 hp tuchumsuh engine.  All the difference was I had to make a little kink on it like the WO has.  I used a pliers.  Take the old one to a small motors supplier and compare it.  Identical size.

What I may try to do is drill the old shaft out on a mill. I sure would like to get in touch with the guy that supplied the instructions for the HR removal. In his pictures (link) it looked like he had a new flapper.

You have to purchase the whole kit, not just the shaft or flapper.  Jim
