Got the PTO in. Then continued working on the rest of the chassis and spent most of the day hunting down little misc parts that are somewhere around here hiding in the grass.

I also made an incubator out of an old cooler, a couple of light bulbs, a hot water heater thermostat and a 12V PC fan. Had 15 chicks hatch out last night! Even if I only have a 50% hatch rate, I should have another 40 or so hatch out today. Then later found this 5' vermin sneaking around, caught him by hand.

You're right about that!...and that reminds me, I'm single and really should think about getting a puppy. I guess all the girls I've chased lately were just pretending to be interested when I started talking about Jeep History and how I plan to eventually have a Farm Jeep with a 3pt and a buzz saw pulley. Some women, I tell ya! They don't care about anything that's really important like manly farm implements on a Jeep.....try explaining the rarity of a dual output PTO, see how far that gets you with the ladies. Not very far, trust me, I've tried it. Yeah, I should just get a puppy,,,even if it's cheating. Man, if I ever find a woman who knows what a Koenig model 58 is and where its located, I swear I'll pop the question right then and there. ;D

BTW, since you guys have been periodically checking out my progress, and I must admit I really do appreciate all the tons of good advice I've received, I've come a long way,,,,,,anywho, you guys will know that I have a highly evolved and a very streamlined efficient parts sorting system here in Comanche County's "Outdoor Willys Recreation and Restoration Center". However, occasionally despite all my organization, I will find a strange part that my mental card catalog will not recognize. Such is the case with this spring today.....for the life of me I can't remember where it goes. E-brake related I'm guessing, or its a non-willys part that got mixed in. I need to fire my warehouse manager for losing track of inventory.....oh wait, that's me.

Its about 12" long.

Yeah, the heat beat me down yesterday so I didn't do much today. But I did go out and fiddle with stuff for a bit, then I just sat perplexed about the spring for at least a good few hours. Just sitting by the Jeep thinking about that dang spring while pondering Li Po's ancient Chinese War Poetry and some of Basho's Haikus, all the while listening to another great foreign genius poet. The mighty and thought provoking Fred Eaglesmith who is from another far away land called Canada. Since I forgot to mention my sponsor in the last post, here he is, and its a duo. Fred Eaglesmith and the late great Harmonica and Mandolin Savant named Willy P Bennet.

The haunting, minimalistic but beautiful song called "Tired". The studio version is a masterpiece.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004KRRUGG/ref=dm_dp_trk7?ie=UTF8&qid=1335499874&sr=1-22

Here's a decent live performance, but Willy had passed on by now and the song has keyboards instead of a harmonica. Its not bad, but I prefer Willie's harmonica, it was/is still irreplaceable. http://youtu.be/OtbCy0dPNeY

Here's another old vid showing Willy P.B.: http://youtu.be/QeAGQ-GbWT8, and another close up of old Willie on the song "Carmelita", another masterpiece: http://youtu.be/Z8YZVrAejXk

But for God's sake, here's one of Willie's best: http://youtu.be/K_Q-pDPvaaQ

That spring was probably being used for the parking brake return spring. It was stretched between the parking brake lever on the transfer case and the small tab on the bottom of the body.

I think so too.  But I'm assuming its not stock.

If that's a screen door spring I'll feel a little embarrassed.  Either a PO bubba mod (which do not always frighten me) or it somehow slipped through my warehousing process.

Nice link, Scruggs was a true talent.

So what if it is a door spring, if it springs and returns the parking brake then it is a parking brake return spring. That PTO is pretty dang awesome by the way. I like the fact that there is just a big old chain in there. Doesn't need to be complicated. Come up here if you want to meet some jeep liking ladies, they won't leave me alone sometimes....

Ok so they will leave me alone. But I like to think that everybody is just playing it cool.

Well Jesse, I appreciate the invite, but I doubt there is a female of the species existing on the planet who will truly appreciate me and my Jeep/Willys addiction. I have however heard of wild women living in the wilds of the rural N. American continent who will occasionally risk discovery and are actually willing to be seen in public with such a Jeepaholic as myself. Over the last 15 years or so, I've been searching for such a creature but I am now at the point that I must admit they are only alive in the minds of crazy crypto-zooligists and wannabe gravity bending cookes like myself. I will most likely spend my remaining days on this earth playing with rusty Willys parts all day, then spraying some sort of pheromone type spray on myself and languishing my weekend nights drinking beer and recollecting my life's mistakes at this new fangled meeting place called "Chille's". From what I understand, its where all the losers go to meet people.

Back to the Jeep stuff:

But first I caught another 6' vermin in my chicken coop. By hand, ---- no snakes were harmed in the snapping of these pictures!

Then I went on down to see my good friend "The Durtch" and picked up a few goodies. The last items I've been neglecting which happen to be the last pieces I need to complete the frame and get the tub back on.....

He and is very lovely 4'8" 90 year old wife were there to greet me....and BTW everyone, if you know some elderly people out there somewhere in the states....then please go and talk to them as often as you can. Our nation's elderly are a true treasure for our country. They have so much to offer to the younger generations and are overlooked and often shamelessly discarded.

That being said, this dirty dog which I've often and affectionately referred to as "The Dirtch", promptly, as soon as I arrived, hit me over the head with a mallet, then stole my bank card, went to the bank and proceeded to withdraw every last dime in my checking account. Despite being a 90 year old man, I had no idea what happened to me......and I'm a combat vet, a former boxer (amateur and pro) and a special operations vet.....I still had no idea what hit me........that old man was crafty as the Sirens in Homer's Odyssey.

As soon as I awoke, the next thing I saw was the following objects in my car and a rather large ATM withdrawal receipt in my pocket. Well, anyway, here's what I found in my possession when I arrived at the house.

Two cool sets of NOS hubs including a cool NOS sticker and set of directions.....before The Dirtch whooped me, I found these on a back isle in his warehouse......They are NOS for sure. I could not find a scratch on the hub housings. They've never been used at all. Also I found an original set of directions too.

I saw these things and thought that they were the same as my "Dualamatics". They are the same design but have a different face. I know my Dualamatics have a rather weak aluminum cam that can be easily broken but not so easily replaced. So when I saw these I snapped up the four unused hubs that he had.

I also picked up enough junk to rebuild my Ross steering box.

And, not sure if I posted it before, but the 90 year old "Dirtch" also had recently scored an M416. He had already sold it before I could make an offer, but here it is anyway.

Let's see,,,,what else,,,,I also discovered "The Dirtch" had placed a new gas tank, sending unit, and a new master cylinder in my vehicle for the trip home.

Good trip, even though I got whooped by an old guy.

But he did throw in the CJ5 light bar and four old school KCs for free.....what a nice guy!

Also on a side note......here's a couple teaser pics of my new roof top tent I've got mounted on my MJ.

Before you think, "Jeez, just finish the dang Jeep and stop subjecting us to this ridiculous thread"....I present our latest sponsor. This brief and inconsequential update is brought to you by the late and most very, very great - Jeff Buckley! He sings as good and even better than Roy Orbison and dare I say even Marty Robbins.  You will never hear a better version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah".

Gentlemen,

You never know where life will take you. Here I go again. I've laid the unfinished tub on the 90% finished frame and loaded up all the other junk I've got for it and will be heading for Georgia in a day or so. Still need to complete this Tetris puzzle of a load and get it situated and ensure I've got everything strapped down safely then I'll take off.

Anyway, I'll get to GA and get back to work as soon as I can.

I leave you with tonight's sponsor, one of Dave Letterman's personal favorites, the near peerless and unparalleled Tom Russell and the very best Cowboy song every put to pen: "Tonight, We Ride!" http://youtu.be/Cwh-h6pHN1Y

So, does this mean you are relinquishing your Texas citizenship? Sweet trailer. I would be dangerous with a trailer I could get that much stuff on..

Good luck and may the good Lord ride with ya!

Thanks Gun, Bill,

I just pulled into Savannah a bit ago, a 1,200 mile trip from Central TX.  I'd bet that's the farthest that 3A has ever been.  It arrived safely in one, well actually a lot of pieces all stacked together.   :)

My trailer is a Big Tex 70 CH, I traded an XJ for it.  It's a 20' dove tail and a very well built trailer,,,,but,,,,the axles are only 3,500 lb units.  Its real easy to over load it considering the trailer itself weighs 2,000 lbs so you can only put 5k on it.  I can't even use it to haul my MJ and spare parts.  I didn't weigh it this time like I usually do but I know I was close or just over 5K.  I do plan to put some real axles on it or sell it, I don't know.  It would be good to haul a low riding corvette, mustang, camaro or some other light weight silly street only vehicle.   I want something lighter and purpose built for hauling flatties eventually and I've got a plan in the back of my head to make a Willys hauler out of a dual axle RV camper, there are lots of those old small campers laying all over the place.  Also, my 5.9 ZJ is only a marginal hauling rig....plenty of torque and power, its just not heavy enough and the trailer pushes it around corners making some nasty understeer, so I have to drive a bit slower.
