Air text Fuel Pump Issues
« on: May 03, 2016, 09:42:32 PM »
I decided to go with a single pump fuel pump on my 3A. The first pump I got from RockAuto was an Airtex pump. Immediately I knew the this pump was defective since the top bolt holding the diaphragm cover was not seating properly. I think they must have drilled it at a slight angle causing a massive leak at the top cover when I cranked the engine over.

I returned it about a week ago and today I got my new pump. Everything looked good until I turned the engine over and gas squirted out both weep holes. This is an indication that the diaphragm internally is leaking. Now I'm getting frosted! This is the last time I buy Airtex fuel pumps. I think Scoutpilot has some pumps for sale. I'm going to call him tomorrow.

Buyer beware!

I am no fan of the vintage clones. Airtex, and all the rest started off with the original design and construction, but quickly moved to cheaper methods of production with cheaper parts. A machine can install press-in valves without screw plates that need a human to twist the screws. Planned obsolescence began post-war.

Old fashioned service never goes out of style.

My Airtex fuel pump started to leak soon after it was installed.   I had to take it apart and make a new gasket for it.  I think the ethanol in our gasoline caused my problem.  It seems fine now.

Scoutpilot's fuel pump is working great. I got a full return for my defective Airtex pumps.
