Chick Hill ride
« on: May 03, 2015, 03:18:52 PM »
Dad (Jeff_M) and I headed up Chick Hill in Clifton, ME today with the 3A, M38 and a friend of mine in his crusty but reliable '54 Pickup. Chick Hill is not all that big but the view is pretty spectacular at the top. I only have a few crummy photos. Hopefully Dad'll add a couple more.

It was a great day, one of the first real warm days we've had around here.  I am a total newby at off-roading so it was an experience.  I understand it wasn't a real difficult trail, but nonetheless I'm impressed that Willys took a relatively light, low-powered vehicle, gave it some ground clearance and low gearing--and voila, a veritable mountain goat--and over 60 years old to boot.  We had the 51 3A, the 52 M38, and a 54 (I think) truck (6 cyl).  All three of these vintage vehicles picked their way up a somewhat rocky trail to the top of Chick Hill, elev. 1152 ft.  I only have three more photos:

Nothing crummy about those photos,  loved them,  thanks for sharing.

It is fun to see the difference in seasons this time of year.  It is recently "green" here in VA,  so it is odd to see trees without leaves. ;D

3 very nice old "mountain goats" there!  :)

The first trail ride of the year...Nice!  It looks like you had some fun.

I must admit...I giggled a little when the altitude of Chick Hill was mentioned.  No disrespect intended.  :)

Haha. I knew you, especially, would scoff at that piddly height.   ;D

1200' out your way would be the bottom of a very deep canyon.

We would have to go to the lowest point in Colorado, dig a 2000' hole, just to get to 1200'. :D ;)

Yeah, but I bet you can't see the ocean from any of those big fellas you have out west   :-)

You're right Jeff.  Those "trade offs" always come bight me in the butt.  I love the way ocean air smells.  It's been a while.  I may need to find "Some Beach...Some Where". :)
